I once worked seasonal at a UPS Hub which was also attached to an airport so we packed planes as well. I was very young and this was a seasonal second job I was taking to save money up for cool shit like video games. The job was dangerous, you were mostly needed in the extreme seasons like winter and summer, and you got paid 10.40 an hour and they only had work 4 hours a day for 3 days for each employee because of this and employees had to sign up to be approved to work more. Nearly, everyone besides the managers struggled with money, addictions, and had poor health but insisted everyone join the union. Every time I asked the benefits they simply stated you get to attend meetings and practice safety and possibly bring up more safety practices. That doesn't sound like a bad thing necessarily but…
So, all the people on here who are just quitting your job, what are you doing now for income? I know some people have other jobs lined up before quitting, but if you don't have another job lined up, how are you paying bills and buying basic necessities? This is a genuine question. I'm not judging anyone. I'm not trying to start a debate or anything of that nature. I'm just curious how one can just walk out of a job and have no back-up plan?
I know I’ve been posting on this topic for a couple of days but one of the things i forgot to mention was they didn’t want to discuss anything over the phone, and the last time I was suspended they just let me go straight to work no talking to management or anything like that. They also claim “it’s nothing bad” which is throwing up some red flags because if it was nothing bad then why can’t they tell me over the phone
Thought I'd share my experience, a year or so ago I was a manager at a small Chain liquor store in the south. We were struggling to find people to work for us because it was a new store and not many people knew about us, so the few interviews we did get were important to me- I remember asking the owner and his son what money we were offering for new hires when that question came up- they refused to tell me. When I pressed further their only response was “Money is not important, don't worry about it.” Naturally nobody was interested in working there- I left shortly thereafter for a different reason, the owner screaming at an employee in the middle of the store over nothing. Quit on the spot.
Had a lovely job offer this week
So me and my fiancé never call out during storms, we’re always there no matter how bad it is outside. Now suddenly we have to and my employer is acting like we do this every time. Frankly I don’t want to take an Uber in and I don’t want to get in a car with my sketchy boss I barley know, especially because he hasn’t provided how I’m supposed to get home. When I asked how I’m supposed to get home. He ghosted me.
