Boss not giving shifts, no unemployment?!

So I work for a sociopath, like many owners in the restaurant industry, especially in NYC. I contracted covid as a bartender and was unable to work shifts for a week I was scheduled. I was blamed for this (have text messages of him saying I should give up all my shifts and then just work more next week to make up for it and ‘be nice’ to other bartenders). I’ll preface this by saying I’m the only bartender out of 30 who came back to this place after restrictions started lifting and I haven’t taken a shift off for any reason. Anyways, I asked him last week to just put me back on my regular shifts for the following week because I will be better then (few symptoms and just don’t want to spread it). I actually was good to work in the middle of the week, I’m vaxxed,…

My jobs work schedule is absolutely nuts

Background; I just started work about a month ago for a very large plywood supplier in the southern United States. The pay and benefits are pretty good considering the position in life I’m in at this moment but the work schedule is completely insane. I work what’s called the relief shift where my shift works on the corresponding days in which the other shifts are off. Day shifts are Sunday/Monday 7am-3pm, swing shifts are Tuesday/Wednesday 3pm-11pm, and graveyard shift is Thursday/Friday nights 11pm-7am. My ONLY off day is Saturday but I get off at 7am. For the past week I’ve been working 12 hour shifts because of the regular swing shift screwing up and him being moved elsewhere in the plant so everyone that runs that same machine has to make up for his lost time. I’m absolutely exhausted working like this and it showed today. I’ll spare details but…

got cut 2 hours and 45 minutes into my shift by my manger but I still had a great day.

So this manager is actually the same one I talked about in my last work related post. What happened was I started my shift at 1:15pm (I'm a full time dishwasher at a restaurant and have been working there for nearly a year) I was supposed to be there till 9:30pm because we had alot of reservations. I had been having some pain in my left kneecap for a few days (this is relevant) and was hobbling around a lil bit. It wasn't unbearable, but quite annoying. But I could still do my job without worrying I would collapse. Two hours into my shift, I sit down for a minute to take a bite out of my burger and rest my knee. Because I knew I'd be there for 5 more hours. I only planned to be there for 2-3 minutes, then get back to the dishes. My manager walks…

Foolish pleb, no pay raise because you’re not “more confident”

“Found out this was the last week I'll have a shift partner at work and I'm on my own from here on. And work told me they won't consider a promotion for me “until I am more confident”. ^Heard this from an acquaintance this week about why their workload is increasing and their wages aren't. Dear employers everywhere, how do you measure the confidence of someone who works unsupervised, alone, on night shift? I told my overworked acquaintance to ask how exactly they measure confidence. I'm curious what nonsense answer will be barfed up as a response.
