Howdy friends, I am looking to unionize the drivers for a local version of food delivery services like Uber Eats and Door Dash. I live in Ontario Canada and have spoken to CUPW a few weeks ago and will be speaking to someone from UFCW later today on the phone. Can one shop for unions to find which one is best suited for what you do? Both of these unions seem to represent workers of similar job descriptions but I would like to work with the one that would help us as drivers the most. Does anyone have experience with either of these unions or know what questions I should be asking? I know recently UFCW came to an agreement with Uber and they now represent drivers in the Toronto area recently but it seems kind of shady. However I am not well versed in this sort of stuff to…
I worked for a lawn company for one day
This company had us sit through 8 hours of videos on things unrelated to the actual job with a day and a half more videos left. They wanted us to do 11 hour days, without planned breaks or even the ability to take lunch, when out in the field. Which is a big problem, because I'm not going behind a bush or in a cornfield, and we would be dealing with harsh chemicals with no ability to wash our hands even if we packed food for in the truck. They changed my job title so I wouldn't get any bonuses like the other workers because I had another job that I needed to leave for in the late evening(well after a normal 8 hour shift). He had to be able to tell the other workers I get to leave “early” because no bonuses, otherwise it'd topple the house of cards.…
Jobs that make good pay and simple ??
What’s up everyone I’m a little lost… I’m currently A Marine getting ready to get tf out in 2 years lol… what jobs can I transition to where I don’t need a damn bachelors in and that is easy to get into ? I’ve heard of law enforcement, Union construction, etc. I want to know some least known ones as well. Thanks
Should I lie on a resume?
So I am applying for a job that I am not fully qualified for there needs. I have some of the qualities. Should I lie about the rest of the qualities? Or should I just keep my real resume and see where it leads me? I'm just curious. I've been a temp for 2 years doing my current work as Inventory coordinator with no benefits. I am looking to be a inventory specialist full time. Any advice?
“High paying job” according to Glassdoor
I got this email with job offers from Glassdoor, and I saw this. https://preview.redd.it/omyy9gi27em81.png?width=478&format=png&auto=webp&s=714d943af56330d06890dcbfc305fa3215eb6dca For the record, minimum wage in Quebec is being raised to 14.25 CAD this spring, so the estimate starting at 14$ is actually minimum wage.
Do less work for more money
This might seem like an odd rant, but here goes. I work for a tiny internet and cable company. We provide service to a couple dozen small towns and cities. I've been here for about a year and a half, running one of their branch offices and being part of their customer care phone team. I'm on the phone 10 hours a day (4 days a week) and I make roughly twice the minimum wage. About a month ago, I was offered an opportunity to interview for a position with the business team – same company, but substantially less work and much higher pay. I had a few interviews and just got the job a few days ago. I'm excited about the opportunity – and I would never complain about this to anyone in power – but I'll be doing quite a bit less than I'm doing now and (after…
He has been working for this company as a tech for five months. He works the night shift from Tuesday to Friday (gets off at 4am) and then is expected to come in at 10am Saturday morning. They are understaffed, but the higher ups say that the team needs to be more productive to justify hiring someone else. And each “activity” is viewed as the same level of productivity. So doing a two hour repair on a bed gets the same productivity points as slapping on a sticker on a bed. They told him that he was going to get 20 dollars an hour but started him at 19. He gets zero holiday pay despite working Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Recently, one of his coworkers crashed one of the company trucks so the company took away the bonuses for everyone. I just don’t understand. These managers don’t seem to…
I have been working as an insurance agent for about 4 years. I have always been way better at service than sales. I hate sales. So when my current employer offered me a job, I made it VERY clear that I am not motivated by money, I am not good at selling, but I am good at helping people. She needed a service person anyway. As she already had two producers. She told me I do not have to do sales. She specifically hired me for service. All she asked was that I cross sell to current clients that had mono lines. For example, ask someone where their homeowners insurance is if all they have with us is auto. Which I am fine with, because I do that anyway. That is kind of part of servicing. I am not into cold calling, I am not into asking strangers, while I…
