I will inconvenience myself to spite some of these entitled assholes.

I figured you guys might appreciate this petty bitch energy I've got going on right now: For context, I work as a writer for a huge blog. We have millions of subscribers and my articles regularly get 100k+ views. I was going to write up a feature article on this little restaurant and had it almost all outlined (ie, most of the work was already done) and THEN I saw while getting photos from their Facebook that they post stupid shit about “nOboDy WaNtS tO WOrK AnYmOrE” …so I went ahead and deleted my progress and will be featuring another restaurant instead. Feature articles on this blog typically bring in lots of interest and new customers, butttt sucks to suck so it'll go to someone else. Sure, I have to rewrite a whole new article for a new place, but oh well I was pleased to see in the comments…

how are we supposed to fight a return to office?

seriously, any ideas? especially if every company requires employees come into the office, we can’t just threaten to go somewhere else. i know everyone is saying it’s a workers market right now but just how long do we think that’s going to last.

Mackenzie Scott, generous patron of the Black Community?

Mackenzie Scott (ex wife of Jeff Bezos) donated 20 billion dollars to HBCUs and related organizations. This was undoubtedly generous of her. Black people need to remember, however, that that same wealth came from years of underpaying her company's workers – many of whom were black. Amazon's executives, including her ex husband, dodged taxes which would have ultimately benefitted public services. So to be technical, Scott is using money her ex husband and she got through tax loopholes from underpaying black workers to donate back to the black community. It was money that was supposed to be ours to begin with. I'm not saying not to be thankful for the gesture, but it's important to look at where and how people got the money they use to be philanthropists. Billionaires get their money through exploitation more often than not and a company like Amazon relies upon the desperation of low…

An accommodation request

It’s no secret at my job that I got sober last year. I’ve been to detox and also did some meetings to be the best sober me I could be. Well I came to my current job about 8 months ago and I’d been sober for about 4 or so months by then. I have always spoken openly and honestly about my drinking problems. Well this job is the worse job I’ve ever had. Back at the start of 2022 I realized I was starting to have cravings to drink. Telling myself “oh one won’t hurt” and things like that but I know that’s a slippery slope. So I went to my immediate supervisor talked to him and told him I would be attending some AA type meetings twice a week at 4pm. No problems since I’m suppose to get off at 2:30pm. Well they force everyone to stay over…

Walmart is the worst

About 10 years ago, I took a job at Walmart to get me through the winter. Landscaping was my rest of the year job and I didn't want to plow snow due that year due to the unpredictable schedule. I was working overnight stocking shelves. As you can imagine, December was insanely busy and we rarely could get our work done on time yet the manager insisted on having a 15-20 minute pointless meeting every night in the middle of our work around 5am. The most laughable experience I had, was on NYE. I volunteered to work as I didn't have plans and was interested in the holiday pay. There were maybe 6 of us working and 1 manager. At the beginning of the shift, the manager says “Hey thanks for working on NYE, let's all meet at this spot at 11:55pm and we will have some treats and ring…

The CEO I work for writes at a 4th grade level

I’m seriously losing it. I recently got hired working for the CEO/Owner of a few different companies. This guy sends emails to clients and leads that are so absolutely atrocious that it would get anyone else working for him fired. The last email he sent to a client was riddled with improper capitalization, incorrect spelling, and incoherent grammar. I’m no grammar police myself, but I had to take a lap around the building to calm myself down after forcing myself to read it. The best part is that he CC’d me on the email so that I could use it as an example of how to approach clients and leads. He couldn’t have put more than 30 seconds of effort into writing it out. Is this a joke? I’m not getting paid nearly enough for this shit!

Our System is Broken

I'm in the US and work in healthcare management. I recently had the opportunity to promote an employee from a different department who does phenomenal work. She shows up, puts in the work, gets along with staff, and is an overall joy to work with on a daily basis. The position came with a substantial pay increase…. or so I thought. My prospective employee is a single parent with a couple kids. Daycare and a number of other government benefits would cease with the pay increase. There is no “off-ramp” where benefits would proportionally decrease with increased pay. She had to initially decline the role. Luckily, my institution cares about employees and equitable opportunities. This is rare in healthcare, but believe it is because we are a smaller institution that primarily serves the underserved. Our executive team does not get outrageous pay or benefits related to financial performance. Our compensation…

I took a mental health day and I feel guilty now.

I've been struggling lately with my mental health, and I decided to take a day off. I asked my supervisor, and she said it was okay, but I can't stop the nagging anxiety that I'm doing something wrong. I just had a stab of guilt as I was playing video games that I took off just to play. I feel extra guilty that I left early two weeks ago for a mental health breakdown. I just need a reminder that I don't owe these people my whole life. My supervisor said it was okay. I'm not getting paid for it. I called out before I noticed it snowing, and I'm scared that they think I called out because of the snow. I'm just a mess of anxiety because I was always taught to never call out, even if I'm sick and especially not for mental health reasons.

Have you ever been turned down for a raise? Told there’s no money for a bonus this year? Here’s how to EASILY find how much the executives at your company make if you work at a publicly traded company in the US. Use it before your next review or asking for a raise.

Tis the season for Annual Shareholder Meetings! Public companies across the country are filing official SEC forms to comply with securities regulations and you (yes you!) can go find out how much your executive team makes in their ivory towers! All publicly traded companies must report executive compensation and the best place I've found to get this is through the company's Proxy Statement from their Annual Shareholder Meeting. Finding it just takes like 4 clicks of your mouse. https://www.investor.gov/introduction-investing/investing-basics/glossary/executive-compensation This Proxy Statement must be submitted to the SEC and they have an easy way to find it using their EDGAR search tool, which can be found here: https://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html https://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html Type in the stock ticker of the company in the search field (make sure to use ALL CAPS). If you don't know the stock ticker, just google “COMPANY stock” and look for the ticker symbol here: oof what…

Boss was mad at me for not coming to work when I wasn’t scheduled….

So I had to take a day off from work because I had a water issue at my house and wait for the plumber. The next day they asked if I would come in on another day to make up the missing day. I said sure why not. We discussed a day that I am normally off and they said they would get back to me. So new schedules came out and they didn't schedule me for the day they wanted me to come in. In my defense I didn't feel the need to remind them and never heard no mention of it days later. So I come into work today and they ask me where I was yesterday? I said I was off. They said I was scheduled to. I showed them the schedule and it said DAY OFF. So then they said we talked about it and I…
