I was terminated after 14 business hours.

I am a seasoned paralegal with experience in complex Civil Litigation, Probate Litigation, Estate Planning, Business Formation, and a few other fields. I worked for one particular law firm for two years. I was not only their Senior Paralegal, I wore the hats of HR, Billing, and often Pseudo Associate. I was damm good at my job, but I was exhausted, underpaid, and underappeciated, so I looked elsewhere for greener pastures. In December in began the interview process with a Veterinary Mergers and Acquisition corporation. After a grueling four rounds of interviews, spanning several months, I was offered a job for 50% more salary, extraordinary benefits, a shorter commute, an incredible bonus structure, the works. This was a company that “does good in the world” and I was so damn excited. I felt like this was my dream job. I felt that this is the place I could thrive and…

Why Would I Want To Learn More Jobs For the Same Pay?

Sitting here on break right now, thinking about what my boss asked me this morning and how he couldn't see it being a ridiculous request. I work in manufacturing. Every different job/line on the floor plays exactly the same amount. My boss came to me today with what he called an “opportunity”. He told me they would like me to learn all the jobs/lines on the floor. That way I could help fill in and cover whenever needed. That's eight different jobs and 16-20 weeks of training for all them, including getting licensed to drive a forklift. All for no pay increase. I flat out asked him, “Why would I do that?” He said it was a great opportunity, and thought one day I could definitely be a supervisor. Not interested. Supervisors are salaried and make 70k a year, sometimes working 60+ hours a week. I'm hourly, making 52k a…

An open letter to all Executives and managers who are “Giddy” with the return to office. From. An IT Engineer.

Hello all, I been reading articles recently about how excited Executives and Management are about their workforce returning to offices. It makes my blood boil. But rather than lash out, I think its time to explain to them the huge difference in what so many of us people do vs what they do, and how many of the “Great Ideas” of the past have been tortuous to us First, what do us IT types do. Or, how our Work differs form yours. You are leaders, you lead, you often know little about the in’s and outs of the systems in which we control and develop and support. But you are all big picture type people. You communicate, dictate direction, decide on strategy based on information given to you, and measure your success based upon all those below you. This is all great, a company works best when working toward a…
