Sorry for formatting, on mobile. I moved from West Texas to Kansas last year. I accepted a job in one city but had already signed a lease & was set to move into said place the week prior to me starting said new job in another. The commute so far hasn't been terrible. It's roughly 30 mins one way, no biggie. Lately when we're hit with snow & generally bad weather, it happens on my days off. So I'm never too worried about it. But tomorrow we're forecasted for 7-9 inches of snow, below freezing temps, ice, etc. And unfortunately, today is my day off. I called my manager to ask if I could work today to be off tomorrow since I haven't gotten comfortable driving in bad weather & while the interstate is usually clear, I'm still a bit scared about having an accident. They have complained about how hard it is to keep employees lately. Now normally I don't have too many complaints about my job. We have amazing benefits for being based in the US. I pay nothing for my healthcare, I get 4 weeks PTO a year, an ESOP that we don't have to buy into, but our pay has always been on the lower end for what we do. This was it. I've been here 5 years and this is a slap in the face. Base pay going up $2 an hour, but you only get a raise if you make below what the new threshold is? Get ready for me to find a new job. Edit – looks like they also disabled the “anonymous” suggestion box. No one can submit anything.
I make $23 an hour for a consulting company in a small city where the average rent is $1500 a month. Im struggling a bit financially as I am financially responsible for my younger brother and have a chronic illness so medical bills are high. (I’m 24, Male). Two weeks ago on my work anniversary I asked for a raise and was told it was not in their budget to raise my wage. I was looking through a contract with a client and I found out that my company is charging the client $125 per hour for work (over 5x what I get paid). I’m quite upset and feel a bit cheated, already browsing for other jobs. Unfortunately I live in an area with limited opportunity and I am not in position where I can simply relocate. Not as much looking for advice, just a quick vent and I appreciate…
So, I guess this is also technically a tifu (albeit yesterday) because I accidentally told the agency that our land lord uses that we were on a lower rent than they thought. After a 10min call to clarify when the new cooker was being fitted (fitted kitchen) she mentioned the state of the world, inflation, fuel blah blah and then says yeah “What are you guys paying? like 950? 950 a month is a fair bit, and I can see it going up again soon- but you do have a garden and stuff which is nice” my dumb ass said “950? We're on Six Fift-..y…”, the world started spinning, the walls started coming closer and what was probably 3-4 seconds felt like a week. then I hear keys clacking, and shes like “oh wow, you are only on 650! Lucky you”. this played on my mind all of the day,…
I just survived a 30 minute meeting on which font to use for training materials….. and the result was basically just to use the default font that 99.9% of the population uses………. Send thoughts and prayers. Or something useful, like coffee.
