Who’s Willing to Work?
One of the insidious things about saying “no one wants to work” is that it implies we have an innate desire to have a job. Most people are only willing to work. They are prepared and ready, but they don't have a passion for it. Employers might be in real trouble if they admitted that people were not willing to work because it would be up to them to create the circumstances to attract candidates. Instead, they want to shame people into thinking that everyone wants to be productive by going to a job 5-7 days a week. If I'm willing to work, I'll to go somewhere that pays well, has a non-toxic atmosphere and will grind me down a less than average amount every day. If I just wanted to work for the sake of working, I'd take whatever was offered to me. I did that when I needed…
Work for free?
So I just got a new job at this well known physical therapy place I’ve been there a week and I feel extremely lied to. So first I was given set hours when starting. Then after I signed my name on the dotted line they say if we don’t have patients we have to leave early and not get paid. Then my boss told me some times the schedule is too busy and I can’t have lunch but I have to clock out for thirty minutes by law. If I have to do this because I can’t get unauthorized over time. They also told me I have to get a TB I have to pay for last minute. They also don’t have anyone in like five of our offices making us have to answer phones for five offices with no extra pay! Have I mentioned I’ve been there less than…
I see a ton of posts here about people with comfortable stable jobs applying for other jobs or talking to recruiters solely so they can stand up to companies with shady hiring practices or whatever reasons. I get it, you’re in a position where you don’t need to beg for a job so you can be more blunt and call them out. Rad. BUT aren’t y’all in reality just flooding the market with resumes and making it harder for the unemployed to get through?
Transitioning out of WFH (Mild Rant)
Well, its finally happening: My employer is starting to transition us back to the office. We’ve been Teleworking just fine for 2 years, and they’ve decided that now’s the time apparently. Background: I train new hires at a large credit union. As support staff we are slated to be among the first wave(outside of those who never left anyway) to return and test the waters. We knew it was coming but just didn’t know when. We were supposed to have a slow transition back and stay in a hybrid format but of course that was a lie. Instead of the buffer month we were supposed to have, nearly every trainer has been assigned to a class in-person on campus during the transition month. So that means we are all going to be full time, on campus, en-masse for at least a month and a half straight with a variety of…
Why don’t we expose these companies?
Whenever I see a post from someone about an employer screwing the over, I wonder why they don't expose them. I totally understand if you still work there and the company can potentially find out, but if you left, I don't see why not. They treated you like trash, let the entire world see their ass. Maybe there is a legal reason as to why not but I would like to know and see these sick employers exposed.
