Every morning, we crawl out of bed dressing ourselves and getting fed packing our stuff, cursing our work cause good paying jobs are for the wealthy reserved No chance to group the stairs they point down keep up that smile you know you can’t frown obey your employer never take breaks Work, god damn work for the economy's sake 167 (or more) hours of work in a week rest’s just preparation your health will grow brittle and weak for value generation after all, its legal exploitation for every future generation until they own the nation Isn’t it torture isn’t it killing it might just be worse we are selling ourselves for endless commerce There is no compassion there is no moral or soul the entire system is rotten and foul And yet we continue in our greed and our rage building and building our…
My Boss needed a slave not an employee
This was last year, at the height of the pandemic. I just graduated. Being a international student here in the US, we only get one year of job authorization after graduation. You basically have to beg employers to sponsor you and hope to god/universe / satan/ whatever poppycock you are into that they will hire you even though you can technically work for one year and only able to continue if they sponsor you. The dept i joined had 4 people, the manager, senior personnel, one specialists and one staff. I joined as a staff. 1 month in and the manager, senior and specialist left the company because they wanted to work from home and remotely or were under too much pressure. Anyway after everyone left, me the newbie and the other recent hire staff were tackling all the responsibilities. The ceo asks me to come in his room and…
Movies, TV, books, memes… Anything come to mind? For a research project about how the “labor shortage” is making companies more exploitative than ever of teenage employees. Thanks!
My company is in absolute fallout
I work in union construction. I almost have 5 years in total but 3 with this company. I joined them bc they were larger than my previous employer which I took as being more professional. Oh boy was I wrong . There’s the owner, 7 people in the office and about 25 installers. The owner hasn’t been putting money back into the company for about 8 years now( from what I’m told) but it’s become very evident since the pandemic. He’s in his 70s(company started in 91) and is a big time gambler. He used to show up to job sites and talk to the workers, but now he comes in for a few min each Friday to grab money. That’s it Our fleet of work trucks to haul material or to actually do the job are ALL jimmy rigged to make it an extra day. Transmissions missing gears, engine…
Preparing for retaliation at work
Preparing for retaliation at work. I know it will be covert and subtle. I work in talent hire and pointed out some unacceptable hiring practices. The general response was well we just do this as an add on to our regular job but that's not what we do. Sucks when you work under people who are not necessarily trained to so their jobs.
This is what’s happening now…
Wanting advice since I can't seem to find anything online. I know in California, employers don't have to pay out sick hours when leaving a job. However, I used 16 sick hours before quitting my job and my employer did not include those hours on my final paycheck. I've emailed about the mistake with proof but have not heard back. Anything else I can do?
It’s a pretty common problem here to have a small window for getting refills and if the pharmacy is out it’s a huge headache. Certain medications are worse than others if they’re more likely to be abused or sold. Both of the people I live with take psych meds and HRT and they often have gaps where they run out waiting on refills. One has insurance, the other doesn’t, but they both have this experience. I had issues with it sometimes getting birth control. My insurance usually let me get 3 months at a time but once those three months were up I’d have about a week to get my refills. It also depends on area. If there are multiple pharmacies you can go to a different location but if you only have one pharmacy nearby you’re stuck waiting. Is it like this elsewhere? This sub opened my eyes to…
Stories of an American Hero
Just a song/poem I wrote several years ago that this sub made me remember. Cheers. Woke up this morning and I made up my bed Alarm's still ringing, no, it's only my head Tied up my laces, ran around a few blocks I’ll be off to the races until my heart stops The races are fixed but I’m sure it’s okay All things left unbroken will shatter someday Maybe it’s fate, maybe I’m still to blame Forever returning the way that I came I lift up my eyelids wide enough just to see The face of some stranger staring right back at me As I count all my dreams before they can fade Into synthetic light and a dull razor blade He said “Don't point a finger, just look around Your big ideas will only bring you down You can go to school and play by the rules Take…
