I worked at an cellphone company (i will not say de name but is it logo is BLue) store and our manager made a lot of money from sales bonuses, we were paid relatively little by comparison. The company pampers the managers a lot, on one occasion they gave him a bonus of 2000 pesos for selling insurance in a week and we who were the salesmen, they gave us a pizza. And his treatment was very heavy, he always went out to eat for 2 to 3 hours, sometimes he didn't even come back, when he was in the store he yelled at us, he also made homophobic comments in front of a lesbian colleague, he talked about how “sexy” was another female colleague, she made us cover more time and also took away a rest day (taking into account that we were in a square that did not…
I’m handing in my notice
I work for a chain of off the peg wedding dress stores, UK. It is owned by one couple I believe. I started five months ago, I'm a fashion graduate and made a wedding dress during my time at uni so it seemed like a dream job. The only problem was the contract was only for 12 hours. My boss knew I had rent to pay and needed more and she was really good at giving them to me, especially over the peak season (Jan to March), I was working 30+ hour weeks. Oh but I'm only on £9.50 an hour, and we don't get bonuses or commission. (Red flags one, two and three) Now the problem with the chain itself is it markets itself as a budget shop, with dresses selling for just £600. It therefore attracts quite a lot of brides on a budget. However, we are expected…
Unpaid onboarding?
I've just been hired and was sent an electronic onboarding packet. They expect me to complete this before my start date. I've never had to onboarding prior to the work start date, every other job has the first day or few days of paperwork. Is this normal in some places?
So for example if your mother tongue is English then, say, German or sth like that If so, what have your experiences been with this line of work? Have you quit? If so, how long did it take till you made up your mind to do so? Was it the insane workload or the shitty pay or both?
BS pre-employment tests
Long time lurker, first time poster. I think this community has done a lot to make people aware of the toxic jobs/bosses/situations they may be stuck in. Especially if you don't have any decent/trustworthy co-workers to talk to/confide in, you can end up feeling very isolated and alone. Having said that, I am now aware of my situation and wish to change it. Started applying online for a bunch of different stuff, some of which I am obviously overqualified for. But I am desperate to get out of my current situation so still applying to some of those. My issue is with these employment tests, In my case, it was a test administered by a company called Wonscore. It had 50 logic/common-sense type of questions and mentioned it was not about the amount of questions you answered, but more about the quality. I think I answered around 30 of them,…

Returning to work
Between unemployment, pandemic assistance, personal savings, scalping other investors as is wont in the stock market, and careful budgeting, I've been able to live at a reasonably high-end lifestyle for a young professional over the last three years without working. Prior to this, I worked in soul-crushing finance jobs where people put on fake smiles and walk around with one arm outstretched and the hand on the other with a firm grip on a gravity knife. I don't want to go back. I can't go back. I can't go to retail either, just to deal with the same shit and even less pay while I grind away at a degree that will set me up to work for, or at some place that's eventually acquired by, the same type of asshole I used to work with. I just want a little Bezos pod, at this point, okay? Don't shoot me.…
Stranded Alone At Work Today
I work at a retail store where we typically have at least 2 openers, a mid shift, and 3-4 closers. Our opener called out sick and nobody comes in until 4 pm when my shift ends. I'll be here 8-4 all alone. I've already had to run to the back of the store and receive 2 different truck load shipments while I left customers in the store to do so. I still have another truck of 6 pallets arriving soon. I just left the warehouse door open, I hope nothing gets stolen. I called 4 employees, no on can help. Yesterday I called 6 applicants, couldn't even schedule an interview because nobody is interested. I'm going straight to Linked In when I get home.
Hey everyone, I'm Nemo, long time lurker and a longer post but I've been meaning to talk about my experience as a new graduate-developer, and how I realized big companies don't give two shits about us. One important thing is that I'm not in the US, but the company I worked for created content solely for US, and had the US company culture too. We tested stuff in Europe and Asia and released to the US. This company had 2 teams, one main team and one side team. I was offered a role in the side team, this being my first ever job, I gladly took it. To give them credit, they were offering me more than all the other companies I was in contact with. The office wasn't too far from my home, it wasn't an open office, we actually had a bit of private space. I worked hard…
