Got Denied Because of Where I Live
Just need to rant. I’ve heard about this community and I agree with the message of workers rights. If this post doesn’t fit the sub just let me know. Sorry in advance. Never had this happen to me before. I’m only an hour away from the position I applied for. I know they didn’t read my resume because they sent me a message asking “Where do I live” only for them to say “oh sorry that’s too far” never mind the fact that my pervious work experience SHOWS that I’m willing to travel to that area for work. I didn’t think living an hour away was such a big deal, but I guess that just means they’d low ball me for wages.
So I work in a retirement home and my hours are 7:30-12. Four days on, four days off. My last day just so happened to land on a Friday last month and just as I was finishing up my shift my and supervisor pulled me to the side and told me he has something on zoom he has to show me, and asked if I was available to join zoom around 5. I was already immediately irritated me as I was off at 12, now I have to log onto zoom at 5 as my weekend begins? So I reluctantly agree because I was under the impression it had to do with work training, as we do have a lot of online modules to complete here and there. So he ends up texting me the link to join and I do. I was wrong, I was so so wrong. He…
I just got a survey request from a company that I recently went through the recruitment process with. I went through three rounds of interviews and had to take off work for the second two rounds to fit their availability. After the third round of interviews I didn't hear anything for a couple weeks so I took that as I didn't get the position. It's been about a month since my last interview, and today I got a survey request to rate their recruiting process. I was never even given a rejection, and now they want me to rate their process… Am I wrong to think this is extremely unprofessional?
Real life struggle
After getting rejected from now over 50 jobs that I applied to, I can confidently say that getting a Master's degree was one of the biggest mistake I have ever made.
No one should have to “earn” the right to have food, shelter, healthcare, freedom to pursue self actualization, etc. None of us asked to exist. However, it’s not debatable that those things aren’t free. They require work. As a social species, we have an unwritten contract to provide for each other and contribute to the group. The assumption is that we’re mostly doing so in fair and balanced ways. Obviously that’s been a badly wrong assumption, and humans have been willing to fuck over anyone and everyone to perpetually seek more for themselves. But imagine someone who decides to be completely self sufficient. They build their home and run a farm and provide everything they need to live all by themselves. It’s work. But that work provides a living. The time spent working covers all costs of living. Therefore, if I give my time to work for someone else, it’s…
