Every application Ive had specifically has a section just for Hispanics demographics. Ive been marking yes, but now that I think about it, I dont know if its actually hindering my chances given how every application Ive applied to asks this! Like why are companies so intent on knowing? And should I mark it as yes? The last few applications Ive submitted I declined to answer, but Im not even sure if I did the right thing anymore. Anyone has insider insights?
There is this video that is going viral throughout India and abroad of a 19 year old boy, who is juggling 2 jobs, sustaining the family with his brother, paying the bills of his ailing mother, with a dream to join the army someday. He runs 10 kilometers to work everyday because he does not have time to train to get into the army. Boy runs daily 10 kms to work wanting to join the army someday Clearly the starting line is not the same for this kid. And there are many kids like him who are trying to make ends meet, dreaming of becoming someone. And instead of addressing the failure of the system that fails to give this kid a fair shot, everybody seems to celebrate his passion and hard work. Which I agree he deserves, but he also deserves the support of the state to provide him…
Work Satire
Hi all, My Probation has been extended to 3 months in a job I loath (quit or stay?) So I’m currently in my first year on a finance graduate scheme. It’s been 6 months and my probation period has finished. However, my line manager says I haven’t passed and so it’s been extended to 3 months. I was shocked because I honestly don’t think its fair at all. My line manager is barely involved in what I do and hardly speaks to me. It’s actually another team member who’s actually been managing me and has told my manager that I may not have been great to begin with (e.g. I had never used excel before)but she told him that I’ve improved a lot and I’m doing well. I even had a session with him just before the probation verdict was made and he said that hes heard good things about…

US income and expenses
Hello people of antiwork, Been lurking this sub for a while now and seeing many posts about minimum wages and expenses in the States left me wondering a lot of things. For context I live in UK where the average salary is £30000. That's lets say £15.6/hr (gross, £11.5 net). I would say that is enough for you as a single person to live and rent comfortably anywhere perhaps except central London. You'd probably need quite a big deposit or have a partner to buy a house but it is what it is. Now going back to US. I've seen that in average salaries seem to be much higher $52000 (and lower income taxes) but people can hardly get by with even that, let alone a lot of jobs that pay a miserable minimum wage or not even that. How is it possible to be unable to live similar life…
New Hires Keep Quitting
I work at a national grocery chain. Two months ago, I trained seven new hires. Since then, all but one have quit. This chain plays slightly above minimum wage. The manager said she didn't understand why they were leaving. I said, it's a hard job and the hours suck. (The easiest way to get around that is to pay more, but they won't do that.) These are new hires are getting paid more than older employees, who started a few years ago when thr minimum wage was lower, so they are quitting too. I don't know when these companies will figure it out. I am being paid to read corny “drink your kool-aid” propaganda to these people (instead of doing my real work) and then watching them realize a week into the job that they're exhausted from waking up at 4 a.m. and lifting 40 lb cases of apples for…
