So, we had our quarterly company feedback session, where all the big wigs and their respective executives tell us how great they are and high five each other. Anyhow… In this meeting today, they confirmed 63 people resigned last year to date (this out of 200 total employees at this company), attributing this to the “great resignation” but we live in South Africa with a 46% unemployment rate. People do not resign for shits and giggles considering the lack of opportunities. The company seems to be detached from reality and not at all concerned that they are losing talented people. In my induction group alone, we were six new recruits, I’m the only one left after a year. With a high unemployment rate in our country, there is no replacement shortage, but then training that new person takes months and quality in our projects suffers. Today I received a job…

I love my mom. In recent years we’ve gotten close enough to just talk about daily life. She tells me about her crafts she’s working on and about neighborhood gossip about people I’ve never met. I indulge her and do my best to seem interested. She will always ask me about work and how I’m doing financially. I’m honest with her that I’m doing okay but always struggling to keep my head above water. And her response every time is to just “work more” or “make more money”. To her defense she has a point. But when you confide in a parent I don’t think one is necessarily looking for a straight answer and is more so just venting for the sake of venting. She hasn’t worked in over 30 years. My dad has been the breadwinner for their entire relationship. I’m not sure if she is so far disconnected…

A bit of background, I work part time and was given 24 hours of sick leave. I am given full time shifts and I am one of the top performers in my job, and have been given full-time hours with no benefits for the last couple of months. I had 3 operations done on my mouth today and I have an awful toothache that is preventing me from sleeping. My dentist closes at 5pm everyday, and my next shifts all end at 7 or 8 PM. My next day off is on Tuesday, and my dentist is closed on Tuesday. What am I to do?

Worked for a small mom and pop print shop for 20 years straight doing graphic design and pre-press. They retired a month ago and closed the shop and I basically got laid off. Ok. So I applied for unemployment which I've never had or applied for in my life. So I do it and then blah blah couple weeks ago by and no check. So I call and I didn't do something right so the guy helps me out over the phone with filing for the stuff I HAD been looking for on indeed.com and other places and about a week goes by so I check my claims. They show submitted but not processed 2 days ago. WTF? So I submit a contact form deal last night and a lady emailed me this morning saying that because I said on the initial form that I didn't want to work for…
