Now give me a sec to explain. I'm sure we have all seen whiny posts complaining they can't find workers, as though there is something indecent about the owners having to work. They have capital and can't produce. They are saying capitalism is a failure! Where all the workers own the business there is Np with labour shortages. And that is… Socialism. So my message is, don't be a socialist fanboy, pay your workers a living wage! I also found an (incomplete) list of companies where the workers do own the company. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_employee-owned_companies
Like most people who were able to WFH, I really enjoyed it. It allowed for a much healthier life balance in a lot of ways. With COVID cases going down, my employer has decided that rather than a full WFH schedule, we should be back in the office for 4 days with 1 WFH day of our choice. Everyone was interviewed by HR about their thoughts on the matter and everyone I’ve talked to said they wanted more than 1 WFH day. On top of that, the lease for the space we work in is coming to an end son and the talk is, we are getting a new space in a more expensive area of NYC. People have expressed their needs to WFH yet we are moving in a direction where the company is going to spend more per month on a leased space that we will be guilted…
Commute to work tracking
My company uses software that has the ability to track our movements. I was asked today to start the tracking when I leave my house to go to the first job site. Does this mean they admit my commute is now company time and I should be paid for it?
Any ideas how I approach this situation? I don’t want to burn bridges but I have my business to think about. I work salaried for an estate agents mon-Fri 9-5. My boss bought a restaurant recently and has decided I will shoot the food for menu items and website use, which I wasn’t consulted on. How do I politely refuse to do it on work time considering they could make it difficult for me at work if I do? I run my own photography biz in my spare time and would happily charge a client upwards of £1k if they came to me with the job. I know my boss won’t pay that. Help, I’ve been ‘booked in’ for the food shoot today. I don’t have lights or props with me and it feels like it’ll be half assed. This will make me look bad as a photographer.
I am a teacher at a charter where I normally love my coworkers. Now that I have Long-Covid, I'm getting the corporate end of the stick. I most likely got sick from school and had it over the holiday. It took me 3-4 weeks to not feel like death (I hadn't got my booster bc I was either sick or didn't want to miss work/errands on the weekend). I took my 2 weeks covid leave, thought I was great. Until Long-covid started & I couldn't remember my kids names or how which way to turn the keys to get into my classroom. I talked about accomodations, but realized there was no way to make it work, since I need constant rest to not have chest pains and lose oxygen. I reached out for short term disability & the helpful environment froze immediately. I needed to get a dr's note to…
Being harassed by a recruiter
Friday afternoon during the school run, I had a call from a recruiter who saw my profile on Seek, liked it, and wanted my CV for a position they want to fill. They were upfront about the pay rate, and I’m not going to lie – it’s amazing! I said to them to email the details, and I’ll have a think about it. I spent the weekend entertaining my kiddo, as it was pouring rain and I’m a single parent. So when the daughter is with me, I have to do everything myself. I’m not complaining, just setting the scene as a “I wasn’t thinking about a job I didn’t seek out” kind of thing. 10:18am Monday, I have a call from the recruiter asking why I haven’t responded to their email. I said something about still getting stuff together, and ended the call. Today (Tuesday) at 12:13pm I received…
I have quite a few assets and investments, but I decided to take a job after being at home for 3 years and doing my own projects. My wife thought it would improve my mental health, get me energised and back into things in a larger way and whilst its WFH, feel I've totally lost my sense of purpose and mission. I thought that picking up some extra cash flow that I can put to work on my own projects would be an additive process, and stop me “spending” my own capital. But I feel rather dispassionate about the role/team and mission. It is a large traditional business where I am working in digital, but there is alot of detail. Previously I feel I had a more stressful role in start-ups but I felt I was “doing something”. Now I'm stuck in a very process oriented huge business performing a…
I wish anyone on tv could be that honest
It's not just about big developers and renting office space. It has just as much to do with your commute and the tank+ of gas getting there.
