I am someone who is sensitive to pain. I am someone who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy affecting on the right side of my mobility skills. When see me walk, I limp ever so slightly if not ever. I have a degree in Business Economics and graduated at a UCI in 2016. I did not have a back up plan and ended up working in retail for 5 years as a cashier and sales associate. Now, I work as an Accounts Payable and I absolutely loathe it. I dread the office environment because I cant really connect with anyone, it's just a bunch of elderly ladies, there's no one in my age group. I always hear about retail/service workers waiting for their schedule, not knowing their schedule until the week before, etc. And from my own experience years ago working in restaurants, it was the same. I've just never understood why. All of these businesses for the most part operate at fixed hours, so how the hell do they not know the schedule? Why wouldn't they just schedule people for the same hours every week, and then have people take time off or swap shifts as needed? Maybe I'm missing something, but it just seems crazy to me and I've never understood why it works this way. Can someone explain why the system is like this?

today the company i work (chain retail) for pulled an even shittier move than usual. first of all, we are understaffed. technically we have enough managers employed at our store, but they transferred one of us to a place with even less staff. their logic goes that instead of one store having normal hours and not being overworked while another closes early, both should have overworked staff and close early. i am a manager in training. one of the other managers decides to go on their first vacation in six years. i get a call from corporate saying that because i am the only manager available, i would be promoted with a $2 raise. fine, right? still poverty wages in my area, but not a step down, at the very least. before i could say “thank you”, they then promptly informed me that once my store's manager was off vacation,…

We have shown that we can survive working at home Why the fuck change that? As long as we have these type of leaders in charge they'll never be happy, We really have to get rid of work/old tradition it's not working anymore. Wars are still being fought nothing has changed at all. We need to destroy the system from the inside.
