Progressive Insurance makes you sign a binding arbitration agreement right at the beginning of applying for a job. In fact, if you do not accept the agreement you are immediately kicked out and rejected. In haste to apply it is a very easy thing to miss especially with how it is presented to you. The scary thing is that the agreement is binding before you are ever interviewed or offered a job. Always take the time to read through every thing you check “I Agree” on when applying for a job. TLDR; Brother talked about his raise to another employee, and now GM says he can't have his raise. My brother works at a fast food chain as a shift lead. Yesterday he was talking to a manager about how he was about to get a promotion from $13 to $15, as he was excited. The manager was like “so he can give you a raise but can't give me an extra $0.50?” Turns out the manager, higher up than my brother, was only making $13 meanwhile my brother was making $13 as only a shift lead, so both are pissed. Today, the GM goes to my brother and says, “We talked about you talking about your raise to others. You're not getting your $15 anymore.” Told my brother he legally can't be told that he cannot talk about his wages with other employees, and that the 'no more promotion'…
He was very excited about this role. He already had 3 interviews and he passed all of them, this was supposed to be the last one. Well, he met his to be manager for an hour. He told me that for the whole time, the manager just tried to sound smart while obviously having little understanding of the field. He tried to belittle everyone in the room by contradicting whatever ever they say and insulting them. He made stupid remarks and did not let anyone finish their sentence. My brother, who is an expert in the field, was asked something. He answered and the other guy just started to make unrelated remarks to make himself sound smart for almost 10 minutes. My brother decided it’s just not worth it. No amount of money is worth working in a toxic environment. His mental health is worth more than money. He got…

I had a catch up meeting with one of my direct reports earlier in the day and she has been talking about comp for weeks. She mentioned how she knows new hires were getting starting salaries of $48k and she had been hired over 2 years ago and is currently making $42k. She said she expected that the company would at least match her with the new starting salary, but that she was really hoping and expected something in the range of $50k-55k. I told her I understood her frustration because I had been in a similar boat when I found out my 2021 raise put me at the same as new hires with no experience. At the time of our conversation I…
