First let me say that I actually like my job. The pay is decent but I don't have medical benefits (I'm in USA) and a long commute and I only work 25 hrs/week. I work in the education world, so money is obviously not plentiful for anyone. I asked my boss if there was any possibility of making my job full-time. They said that I'd need to prove I “deserved” it. I didn't even know how to respond. How am I supposed to do a 40 hr job in 25 hrs without giving free labor? No doubt it would take a year or more to “prove” myself. And it's not even guaranteed that they'd increase my hours. I have a new manager (who my old manager used to insult, and I’m really glad she rose to the occasion and replaced him). She is definitely a “company woman”, but looks out for me (us) so much more than the old guy that I regularly give her a heads up that I appreciate her being my boss. I’ve been sick twice the past two months, and her response was “you don’t think you have COViD, do you? Either or, I just want to make sure you’re ok and if you need anything to let me know.
