I’m so tired

I was working at a work from home job for about 5 months last year and it was $13 an hour but I was so thankful just to be working from home. A week before Christmas they ended our contract for what we were actually doing and what I was hired for, and changed all the job requirements and duties. My job title went from being a case manager who was helping obtain covid-19 rental and utility assistance where my main duties were processing applications looking at documents moving cases through for approval and occasional outbound calls on a 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. schedule, to inbound calls helping elderly people places orders for medical equipment and over the counter medications. We were expected to do 20 calls minimum per hour, and my schedule changed to 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. literally Friday I was working one job Monday I…

Should I email back?

I applied for a job two months ago, filled out their joke of a “personality quiz,” and….nothing. Today, while cleaning out my email, I discovered an email sent to me this Tuesday stating they’d like to schedule an interview. I’m no longer interested so won’t be replying, but is this normal?

6 rounds for a non-profit job – last interview tomorrow

I've been in the interview process for a non-profit job where my 6th and final round is tomorrow. I did a 45min HR call. A 2hr interview with the hiring manager (who i'd report to if I get the job). I was set a 3 stage task (review two data sets and audit a webpage), I then presented that to two global directors and spent a further hour answering interview questions. I did a followup task which was to take my results from the first task and turn that into a presentation. Tomorrow is the final stage where I'm meeting the chief of communictions. It's honestly been gruelling and i'm really exhausted. There are only two people in this round, they told me that. The problem is i've been here before, rounds and rounds of interview and then i've come in 2nd place. I'm losing the will to…

What’s the point of working for 40+ years? Few awful years of retirement in exchange?

I'm not even 25 yet but I already don't see a reason to live past 40. I mean what for? I'm already wasting the best years of my life at some crappy jobs earning barely enough to survive from month to month just to make it somehow to retirement. Currently the age of retirement in my country is 64 but economists already agree that it has to be changed to 70 in the next decade because the population is rapidly getting old. Like what's the point of that? Working till you are 70? I will be sick as fuck by then. I have 3x bigger chance to get cancer than the general population and also family history of other chronical painful diseases. I will retire at 70 sick as fuck and spend the last awful years of life going to the doctors and they be like ''Bruhh you're old as…

Have you considered self employment?

I’ve worked shitty jobs like cleaning, retail and call centre, the latter of which inspired me to learn skills so I can work for myself, which by my late 20s I was able to do. I would really recommend it because you get to keep all the profit yourself and claim expenses against tax. If I don’t wanna do a particular job then I just say no. I am an illustrator as well as teaching drawing, writing articles about art etc. I make a full time wage at part time hours, I definitely could work more but my mental health is a bit tenuous so I opt for less money and less work. I totally get the feeling of hating and dreading your job but when you are self employed you never feel like this. Just thought I would share for anyone struggling with their current job that you CAN…

Can I get some tips on what to look out for when job searching for IT?

Hi guys, so I'm about to graduate with my associate's in IT in about 5 weeks with the A+ cert soon to follow. I have good customer service experience/sales experience (retail) but no professional/paid IT experience. I live in SoCal. Now I have a few specific questions but I would love any and all tips you guys have for me, I've seen some really good stuff on this sub. Should I stick to jobs listed as “Entry Level”? Should I be ok with relocation out of state? What sort of pay/salary should I reasonably expect? Any red flags to watch out for? Is remote work a viable option and good work experience? Anything I can put in a resume or use in an interview that would be good? I know I should get more qualifications when I can, are there any that I should work towards ASAP? Type of…

Organize your selves!

Semi-retired Silicon Valley Engineer here. I worked for a large mainframe computer maker who was the biggest competitor to big blue. The company started to slide before being completely bought out by a major Japanese electronics maker. Before that happened they bought a “supercomputing” company for the tech. They offered new challenging positions there for employees to transfer. This included the entire chip design team (about 20 people). Then after a couple of months later, the company laid off everyone at that division. Yeah, I wondered what was going on when you lure the best and brightest to a new division, then axe that division seemed like the corporate equivalent of putting a pistol in your mouth. The beautiful part of this is that chip design group decides to market itself as a group, rather than each looking for new work. They got “bought” with the most junior member getting…

If I’m working a register and my till is short, can my boss make me use my tips to make the till correct? I live in Oregon

As the title says, my boss tells me and associates that if we come up short at the end of the night that we should use our tips to correct the mistake. I’ve had to do this a few times, usually my numbers are spot on. But there are a few other associates that aren’t as good and constantly have to use their tips to level out things at the end of the day. This has been going on for awhile, and I was thinking about it last night and was curious if it was legal or not, im in Oregon if that makes a difference. My boss does some pretty sketchy stuff that wouldn’t surprise me if most of them break some rules or are illegal. I like my job, I just want to be informed and do things the correct way.
