job punishing people for calling out when we were told we wouldn’t be.

I work at a place that has a point based call out system. If you call out for being sick you get one point with a maximum of 5 points. This week we've been getting several severe weather warnings and so I confirmed with management that we wouldn't get pointed if we called out/left early due to weather. I even have text confirmation that that is indeed the case. Well, yesterday we had a decent snow fall for the area and roads/cars were frozen and such. So, naturally, they had a lot of call outs (I wasn't scheduled). Today I get to work and hear that they're pointing everyone who called in for weather after noon even though they explicitly said they wouldn't. Is this legal? Or allowable? Cause it doesn't feel like it.

if you’re typing the words “lawsuit” or “easy money” or “lawyer” in your advice, you are wrong. please stop.

In 24 hours i spotted at least 18 instances of “advice” that involved lawsuits and lawyers and the arrogant and very incorrect “this case is cut and dry herp derp free money”. If youre not a lawyer, stop giving false legal advice. You are harming the people who are posting here by arrogantly and confidently and incorrectly giving them hope that they can win some money when 99% of the time they cannot and youre just citing something yoi thought you heard on tv or read somewhere. Workmans comp, settlements, and unemployment are not lottery tickets waiting to be won. You're not helping with your very uneducated responses and you're trivializing the fact that worker's rights are trampled every day.

I just found out we have to work unpaid Saturdays. I need to f#cking vent.

I work in the IT department for a very large org in the United States. There are 3 of us technicians to serve roughly 20,000 employees. We used to have 7 technicians, which was still far too few a number, but those folks all quit after management ran them out. We are salaried non-exempt employees who all make roughly 50-55k a year (already quite underpaid for advanced level technicians) and our hours, responsibilities, etc change on a fucking dime. We are consistently punished by management for being understaffed without so much as a thank you for our efforts of working every single minute of every single day. (Seriously, I feel pressure when I step out to go pee). Allow me to give you a contextual example – Previously, our working hours were “extended” (without pay because we are non-exempt) due to us being “unable to fulfill client obligations.” The literal…

I’m Salaried at 40 hours but I only work 30

My job is salaried (30k) and I don't need to submit my hours and no one tracks them. I'm supposed to work 40 hours per week but I've only been working 30. I don't clock in or out, but I am required to be available at all times which is mostly just responding to an email or text. On occasion, like if the weather is bad I just don't go in. 100% I always expect a call or text from my boss asking if I'm coming, and it's never happened. Here's the kicker. I'm performing better than most of my coworkers when it comes to our goals and numbers, and I'm new to the company! I think that's why my boss never questions me. Everyone always tells me I'm doing a great job. Hopefully I don't get fired for skipping 10 hours per week

My boss does absolutely nothing about workplace bullying. So now of all his employees are ghosting

I work remotely for a job based in Canada and have done so for 2 years now. It's hands down one of the most toxic environments I've ever experienced in a job. There's no HR, so nothing gets addressed or resolved. The bullying has been ramping up over the last 6 months and multiple people have ghosted. They've left their duties and the role without saying a word to anyone. I am far too overqualified for this role. I got stuck in it as I accepted it just before the pandemic began, and haven't been able to find a new role since. It kept me afloat during the lockdowns but it's been awful. Most of my colleagues contact me last minute asking me to do tasks for them, they contact me at midnight and at weekends asking me to do corrections. Even when I'm away for the weekend, they blow…

Told my boss that I was feeling suicidal. His response was to focus on work.

(TL;DR) Don’t trust your employer, even if they were your friend first. My friend started a company and I was his first employee. He promised me partnership in the company and I worked my ass off for him. I started out making commission only so he had no risk and brought in over $70k in profits for the company(after my commissions were removed) in my first 6 months. I was taking on leadership roles in recruiting and training new sales people. Helped train his assistant and answer questions she had while doing his work. I was a team player. About 6 years in I was going through something personal and needed a break. I told him I was feeling suicidal and his response was that I should work harder and focus on sales. I tried but it didn’t work. It was making things worse. He also refused to let me…
