Definitely need antiworks advise here

So if you look back in my post history you'll see a pretty fucked gist of how my life has been the last couple years. To make a long story short my union told me to stay out of trouble for a few years. Well i bid a position asking for a 1hr shift in start time. The future direct supervisor told me it was fine. Started it and his boss told me “no, you can't work those hours. The hours posted is what it has to be”. Well i canceled my bid and went back only for a junior man with half my time take the position and he is being allowed to work those hours….my rep was call HR. HR told me to call internal Affairs(which is what i could have done about my original dilemma but in the long run would have made things worse for everyone…

Need some advice! Never given a notice to quit before…

In true anti-work fashion, I’ve never given a 2 weeks before. I typically quit on impulse or stop showing up because I get manic every so often and I make bad life and financial decisions. This job is the longest one I’ve ever had. It’s been a decent job, and my manager/boss has been an incredible person the entire time, literally the best boss I have ever had. Lets me call off without question when I need to and always approves my time off requests. I genuinely feel bad about having to quit but my lease is up soon and I won’t be in this city anymore. I plan for my last day to be either July 8th or July 15th. Will likely be July 8th because I’d like the free week to clean and pack before I head out and I just don’t see the extra $200 or so…

What do you think about learning a trade? Better than going to college?

I've been thinking about this for a long time. I graduated History, studied Archivism, but I wonder what other path I should have gone. I wanted to become a software engineer, but I don't have the talent nor the money to study. I wonder if I should go learn another skill or a trade like pulmbing, construction or electricity. I can't work in retail, everytime I go there it makes me suiכidal.

For the many of you who are in jobs where you have to do things that aren’t your responsibility….

I’m a bookkeeper and have been tasked with producing a 30 page Risk Assessment and Method Statement for a big construction job starting next week. I’ve got to go through all aspects of the job by myself and determine what’s being done to then inform the contents of the RAMS I hate everything.

Productivity while working from home.

I got a time sensitive request yesterday looking to be delivered in 24-48 hours. I told my boss, ‘I’ll be working from home tomorrow so I can knock this out”. He replied, “good idea”. My boss knows what’s up. I think it’s reflective of the whole return to office movement. They know we are more productive at home. Two extra hours I can work on this without a commute, no constant interruptions of questions or office chatter, I can grab food from 15 feet away and get right back at it. Admittedly, I struggle with the forced return to office.

HR and Misguided Priorities

I work in occupational health and safety for a relatively large corporation. I'm in Canada, but our HQ is in the states. HR put together an “Engagement Committee” to celebrate and acknowledge those fake holidays throughout the year, such as Cupcake Day when people are encouraged to bring in cupcakes. I brought up the fact that April 28th is the National Day of Mourning, an acknowledgement that started in Canada and has since been recognized in 100 countries to honour workers who have been injured or killed on the job. We work in a dangerous field, and have had dozens of lost-time incidents YTD and even had a fatality last year. I wasn't asking for much, just some basic respect and a moment of silence. I was told that there wasn't room in the calendar to recognize the Day of Mourning. I'm writing this today because, although I'm a fan…

Just answer the question!

Earlier this week, my boss gave us our monthly client reviews via email. For the past several months, I have gotten all high scores, with few low ones once in a while. Can't make everyone happy so not a big deal. Last month, I got a low score and boss said client left feedback that will be shared at a later date. I responded a few minutes later after receiving said email that I'd like for that feedback to be shared now so that it's written down. “I'll print out a copy of the feedback and give that to you.” You know good and well that isn't what I meant! I've got no idea what this client could be upset about. If it was something serious, why wasn't it brought to my attention and addressed sooner? If it's fairly minor, why the delay in sharing the info with me? I…

What are signs of a toxic workplace?

I’ve been working at my new company for almost a month and want to run away. Stuff like lack of or no training being provided to me, lack of support, pointless meetings, senior coworkers and managers dumping all of their work onto you and expecting you to do it “their way” with no training given, disorganisation, coworkers working through lunch breaks or not taking lunch breaks at all, poor communication, meetings going over schedule with coworkers having no respect of your time, managers eyeing your computer screen as they walk past, a culture of people staying back late to finish work etc. There is so much wrong with this company, it’s a complete shit show. I have never felt so stressed in my life. I’m early in my career and find it difficult to distinguish if this is normal. Are all workplace like this? I have an incredibly high work…
