Wage to cost of living ratio

Anyone who works full time should be able to purchase a home with AT MOST a quarter of their monthly income going towards rent/mortgage. I don't care what the actual number is. It's about the wage to cost of living ratio. Again, let me repeat this. ANY AND EVERY SINGLE FULL TIME JOB, NO MATTER THE EDUCATION OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS, need to meet this standard or we're a fucking barbaric monstrosity of a nation. A high school drop out flipping burgers and dropping fry baskets for 40 hours a week should be able to BUY a home for a quarter of their monthly check. I really want to drive home what I'm trying to say here.

3 job interviews later, and you’ve wasted my time

So I was applying to a lot of job lately, and one was for a lab manager at this prestigious medical university. I have lots of science experience (which is what they say they based the pay off of). So I do the first interview, it goes amazing. They tell me I got moved on to the 2nd interview, that goes amazing as well. Then the professor tells me they want to meet in person to let all the staff and then they can make their final decision. We discuss salary and the professor tells me that HR doesn’t say how much they will offer until they decide to move forward and hire me, which they are ready to do because they like me. I say alright and I really like the job, but then I get a call from the professor and the university said they could only offer…

I got fired from a job I moved for

So a little background I work in a very niche field. I have my BS in a science and have plenty of job experience. I wanted to move up in my field so I go a new job that was across the country in a more particular field that paid a bit more than my current. I was hired in a “junior” position because I am new to this particular field and wanted a job that was going to fully train me in this area so that I can eventually be a “senior”. During the interview this was a big reason as to why I chose this job, because they said it would take about 2yrs to fully train me and so on, nice! I worked there for 3 months (not even a full 90 days) and I was let go because of work performance. Here’s why this isn’t accurate,…

Being micro-managed out of a job

I work as a graphic designer at a small agency that predominantly deals with a fairly niche industry (not going to say what industry as there's not many agencies who deal in it and I might – who knows – get fired). In the five-person team are three directors, the son of one of the directors and me. I've been there for almost 3 years and I think I'm good at what I do. Money is tight right now due to issues in the niche industry – I'm on not far over minimum wage despite having 9 years design experience (in fact a recruiter recently laughed at my salary and told me – like I didn't know already /s – that it was “shit”.) When I started they had a digital marketing apprentice, and virtually as soon as she graduated and became a full-time team member that's when the directors…

How would be your job if you and your coworkers had the power to set your working conditions?

Would you still be stressed? How much would you earn? Would you be happier working in a “less respected” job if you had this power? Would you considerer to make big changes in your life? Like having children. EDIT: I'm not talking about “being your own boss”, what I mean is, in the exact same position as your are now, be granted the power to set the conditions.

Employers be Like “There’s a Labor Shortage”

No you just don’t wanna pay people well or are trying to make a problem that doesn’t exist. I a 22(M) with open availability and plenty of free time at the moment for some reason has applied to 10 jobs and only 1 said they’d be willing to hire me, 2 denied and the rest I have yet to hear a response.
