We talk a lot about workplace conditions in general, but one thing that isn't mentioned often is food. A lot of food is frozen, lacking in nutrients, or contains too much high fructose corn syrup.
I just got back from Harris teeter. I was speaking to the employee who was checking me out and we talked about being a cashier as I was one for over four years. I was always allowed a sweater and to see on my till if no one was there. But apparently at Harris Teeter (at least one in the NC triangle areas) wants their employees as miserable as possible. For $10 an hour and they aren’t allowed a SWEATER? It’s 43 degrees out today and raining and just miserable. That’s torture for no good reason and I’m so sick of seeing it. They stated there were more rules but we didn’t have time to talk about it.
[vent] i can’t get a job
i don't know what i'm doing wrong, i'm signing up for min wage jobs constantly and nobody's hiring me. i built my resume with a career counselor. i am well written. i've never been arrested or fired. i don't get it everyone says they're desperate for employees but nobody will respond to my applications. my last employer LOVED me and sings my praises so my references isn't the problem. i feel like there's something wrong with me, no follow ups no interviews it's been months applying every day

Back in the mid 2000's (maybe around 2004 or 2005), I worked at a call center for Roger's Wireless (Canadian telecom). They had hired me for customer service but then moved me to outbound sales. I didn't know how to stand up for myself back then so I just went with it. I was actually good at it and since we got commissions on sales, I was soon the top seller and was earning way more than the measly $11.25/hr they'd hired me at. Because I was routinely making 3 to 4 k per month, my team lead and his manager got salty and promoted me into the made up position of “assistant team lead”. They bumped my pay up a whopping 50 cents to 11.75 per hour but I'd basically be in charge of all the work the team lead was doing before. I had to manage schedules for…
Hello, so I work in a barber shop, there's 5 female stylists coming together to ask for a raise. We all went to trade school for this industry and most of us have about 10 years experience. We are paid minimum wage plus tips. Our manager brags about their wealth and expensive trips to Mexico or Hawaii monthly and has 3 children in ivy leagues but they claim they can't afford even a dollar raise. We have to talk directly to the owner because we don't have a manager, she gets very emotional and uses personal attacks when we bring up valid points on our worth. I could use some help putting arguments together to combat some of their defenses. First of all, they use the claim that out tips even things out- though most of us are struggling to make rent and be able to eat (a couple of…
Hi all, I've been into FIRE for the last couple of years. VTI, Jim Collins, fear debt like the devil, live humble, etc. Love FIRE. I have a dear, dear friend I'm worried about. She just told me her 13 y/o child got into a private Catholic school that will cost… $13000 per year. That's roughly $78k from when he's 13-18 y/o. Here's the details: 1. She's 45 y/o and single 2. 3 kids – 13, 11, and 2 y/o. – The baby with a separate father. They're in a custodial war that has already cost her $30k this past year. 3. Job – massage therapist making maybe $60-70k per year. 4. Home – Owns a house that her father helps her with the mortgage. House value 500-600k. 5. Student loan debt – I think $60k 6. Emergency/911 fund – Prob none 7. Retirement savings – none at 45 y/o.…
