I don’t know what to do.

I was sick at the beginning of January (Covid) and out of work for half a week. Then I was sick at the beginning of this month and out for basically four days that week. Point is, I've missed a lot of work. In my head I think to myself, I'm just being a baby and I need to push through it and get my a** to work. But people are saying that I need to take care of myself. Now, I hurt my back yesterday at the beginning of the day. And it's debilitating. (But I still pushed through the whole day at work) I need to rest it or it won't get better. I thought about taking the day off today but I decided to skip the gym instead to hopefully appease my back a little. ( I go to the gym at 4:30am every weekday morning and…

I think I now understand why salary only very gradually increases as you spend years in qualified jobs…

Recently I've had the dream of just working like 8 to 14 years and then retiring, going to some equatorial Island, buying a small house and living the rest of my days bicking, swiming, windsurfing, sailing there. Essentially living my best life. I know i'll be done with college when i'm 25 so if I want to still physically be able to do any of that when I retire I gotta hurry up… The job i'm aiming for pays well but I think i'm not the first one to have such a dream so it doesn't pay very well for the first 3 years, then pays relatively, then pays very well after 10 years… If it payed very well right away it would only take 13 years for me to retire at 38 and live 50 years with 500 to 600 euros a month and a 200 000 to 300…

Finally quit my awful job but feeling bad about it

so as literally millions can relate, my boss was an exploiting piece of shit. I finally had the courage to quit and i've been met with threatening emails and gaslighting that somehow I've been disrespectful and unprofessional. They're making me second-guess myself and basically manipulating me when in reality they've been horrible, abusive employers that did not pay me for countless hours of work. If anyone has any tips to stay mentally strong in this situation or similar experiences to share so I don't lose my mind that would be greatly appreciated

Did anyone else receive a North Face backpack for an end-of-year gift from their company?

Me and my wife both work office jobs for different companies and oddly enough we both received the same backpack as a “thank-you” gift for our individual Christmas gifts.

Bar industry troubles

I’m reaching out for a friend of mine who is going through a very difficult time, along with her employees. She’s a bar manager for a hot spot in the city and the owner is causing an unsafe and toxic work environment. He is showing up to work drunk and lashing out at the staff. He’s has been caught on camera assaulting one of the bartenders when they were trying to deescalate a situation with a patron because he was intoxicated. He has laid hands on the female bartenders several time Including slapping one on the butt and saying it was meant to be “playful” I’ve been helping my friend write emails and texts bringing this behavior to the owner. They scheduled a meeting to discuss it and he once again was intoxicated and completely blew her off to the point she has to put in her two weeks notice.…

Opinions on letting employers know about mental health or hidden disabilities ?

I have a few mental illnesses that makes jobs hard, along with a hidden disability that sometimes makes standing or moving for long periods of time painful. Though I never tell my employers about it because the few times I have they’ve cut my hours drastically until I was only working one day a week and then fired me for “not fitting into the schedule anymore” I honestly feel like they will discriminate against mental health and other disabilities so I just hide them completely

Finally

First time posting, long time lurker. I just put in my notice at my job. I'm going to stay home with my infant son and do custom woodworking in the evenings. Not to say I had the worst job ever but no one has received a raise in 4 years, turnover is high in my department with no filling of open positions. After looking at the numbers and adding childcare into the mix, my wife and I decided we could make do with me staying at home Thanks for the courage from all the posts!

“Not willing to work”

My old work is really struggling so my old boss called me up and we were chatting. Originally i was planning to go back 2 days a week but they dragged there feet and now im too swamped with my own company. Dude got pissed off and literally called me another “lazy democrat not willing to work”. Im sick of being told im lazy and need to go back to work just because I opened my own company. So i took pictures of my recent invoices (not the names just the order). The jobs started as one or 2 items here and there then 10 then 20 the most recent order is for 400. I make $100 of each one customer supplies the item and all parts all i do is labor refurbishing the items. I even have my competitors contacting me to sub contact work out to me.
