Maybe it’s all the doom scrolling but it seems like every financial media outlet and now the President is chiming in about returning to offices. Will remote work endure? The thought of having to commute into an NYC office is beyond stressful to me.
You don't need access to sensitive personal information before deciding to go with your nepotism hire anyway. It should be illegal to require this type of bull. I don't want you speaking to any of my friends or family because you should not have access to my personal life. Period. You don't need to know who I hang out with, what I do on my own time, or where I sleep. All you need to know is that I am interested in working here, can do the job adequately, won't steal, and won't disappear. You don't need to be able to screen me for my political affiliation, social network presence, religious affiliation, anything. It's “illegal” for employers to do some of these things, but think about this from a rational perspective. Who is monitoring your bosses computer to make sure they didn't check your information? Are you going to…
Run my company for $15 per hour
I am so sick of looking at administrative job postings where the list of duties pretty much includes everything to run a business, all for just around minimum wage. I'm happy to work, and to work hard, but not to be completely taken advantage of.
Previous employers have to give references on old employees, prior to starting a job. But why can't we seek out people who used to work there, and ask them for references on the job? It sure would make things a whole lot simpler for us. If it turns out that a company is terrible, we don't have to find out for ourselves.
So one of my employees comes in from her break and says she needs to talk to me when we slow down. Well, she informed me that she just received word that her aunt had passed away. So immediately after I go and find one of my bosses ask her about bereavement leave and how it works, etc. I gather what information I was told, then I told my boss, “if she’s not feeling well or if I feel she’s not gonna make it I may send her home early.” She responded with a very firm “no your not”. Note that I am a lead and she is my employee. The boss that I talked to is only in charge of my department when my boss isn’t there. How? How does it make sense? If one of my aunts passed away I wouldn’t want to be at work? Granted my…
you aren’t sticking it to the patriarchy when you don’t tip your waiter/waitress, you just aren’t paying that person. yes i agree that servers should be paid a living wage but they aren’t. right now the system is set up so that servers get their income from tips, YOU pay the server for their service to you. tipping sucks but it’s part of the dinning experience, if you’re going out to eat it’s your responsibility to make sure you also have enough to tip. it sucks having to tip but it’s literally not any different than paying for your food on a bill. you pay for every part of the dining experience, tipping is part of that. if you want to end tipping write a letter to congress or something, just flat out not tipping your server is just hurting a fellow poor worker. (the anger is good, just channel…
