So I’m super ticked off, I just learned that my employer at the coffee shop I work at has hired a lady, with no food or coffee experience to take the manager roll I was offered. A month and a half ago I talked to her and said that I would be happy to take on a larger roll within the franchise, and she said she’d be happy to promote me. What she’s done instead is given me more hours more responsibility, and when I ask about the promotion she laughs at me. Calvinism rots the protestant work “ethic” to the core. Basically, in a nutshell, most anglo-saxons* believe (and that’s so pervasive that even non-protestants believe it, too!!!) that poor people are poor because they are lazy, and they are lazy because they have no morals, and they have no morals because god has decided so, and there’s nothing that can be done about it, except punishing the poor because of their poor morals. It’s not for nothing that France seriously persecuted calvinists and protestants for centuries, because they have a very toxic mindet that absolutely rots the social fabric. So I’ve been with this company for almost a year. About five months ago, they promised to transition my position into a more design-oriented one. They said this transition would take about a month. It’s been five, and there has been no movement on this. I brought it up to my boss (this isn’t the first time, by the way. To provide some context, I work for a small marketing agency. I’m quiting for a long list of reasons (against remote work, constantly watching the clock, toxic culture) but also because I landed a gig that would be fully remote and pay me more. I was a top performer at this agency and was promoted to a managerial position in less than a year. I started job searching aggressively when the CEO started to bully me everyday. She would nitpick my work, make passive aggressive remarks during meetings, and lecture me for not working past 6pm.
