My office is me and 3 other people (including my boss) so when we first started remote work, we'd have a rotating schedule of 1-2 partial in office days. In 2021, we transitioned into more full in office days, with 1 work from home day, and I was given 1/2 days on Friday, meaning I'd work from home Friday afternoon. Well, one of my 3 coworkers is out this week, so my boss scheduled me for a full day on Friday. In the past, if I was scheduled until 5 on a Friday, he'd tell me it was likely an error and I could go home. I emailed today to confirm my schedule, and not only am I in the office all day today, my 1/2 day Fridays are likely gone forever. In the email, he said what the title says. I know I sound like a princess, but I…
I’m 18 and In high school and I work a part time job at a fast food place. I make only $10.20. I have been working at this place for 2 years now and I was started off at $9.00 an hour. Recently they have been hiring people starting at $13 an hour and I got mad and talked to my general manager, he agreed and said he would try to get me to at least $11 or $12 however, it’s been about a month and nothing has changed. I talked to some coworkers about it and they suggested I could quit and get rehired and they would probably offer me a higher wage.
I recently interviewed for a position at an airport lounge. Pretty basic position, friendly interview and so on. Long story short, I got home and did the math with my expenses, and I figured after living costs I would be coming out at around 100 net positive a month working full-time. I have been out of work for a while now, so against my better judgetment I am really keen to get at least some ball rolling. I decide to call the interviewer back and ask if they support transport costs for commuting as the airport is 20km out of my city, and the monthly ticket for my city is 100€. The interviewer asks his boss then let's me know they support petrol costs for people driving, but not someone using public transport (which also perplexes the shit out of me, but whatever, r/fuckcars). The interviewer is apologetic about it,…
Today is employee appreciation day at the company I work at. They are a very large company, nationwide and some branches in other countries. The CEO sent out an email thanking everyone for their work company wide, and all the higher-ups made a video saying thanks. The email stated that we made record profits in the last year, and how we've made shareholders very happy. No mention of bonuses, raises, or anything monetary. To say thanks, management has purchased pizza and ice cream for lunch. They also held an award ceremony during our morning meeting, which was so depressing it's comical. A select few employees got awards that actually showed appreciation for their work. Another handful received awards about their personalities (king of comedy, etc.). The last handful received petty, disrespectful awards (always wants to leave at 5:30 award, can't catch a break). It baffled me that they thought that…
No Raise is a pay cut
Had my yearly review today and didn’t get a raise because I was contractor for the first few months of last year. I don’t want to just complain, but it’s been going through my mind all week that if you don’t get a 7% raise this year, they are literally cutting your pay. I’m going to do cocaine and play Elden Ring while they pay me, read Caliban and the Witch. https://www.akpress.org/catalog/product/view/id/789/s/calibanandthewitch/
This was in 2018. I worked during college for a company that would teach after school classes for K-6th grade. I liked it, and it was flexible hours that paid decent for part time work. Most importantly, I REALLY liked my coworkers and the owners who ran the business as a passion project in their retirement. Right about the time I graduated the old owners sold the business to two couples who I guess had business experience in tech companies. With a recommendation from my amazing boss, and a few supervisors, they offered me a full time office position replacing a friend of mine who was going to get “promoted” to a different position. I had also been interviewing for a few other jobs, and got another better offer, that offered everything a company should include. I turned It down though because I really liked working in youth education and…
I currently a young intern in the fashion industry. I am a university student intern working 40 hours a week unpaid for university credit. I had to come on here to vent because I feel silly complaining to the people in my life about this. I feel so overworked. I literally cry every night. The university doesn’t support me at all as they are adamant on 40 hours a week rule. I have never been unhappier in my life and trust me I’ve been through some shitty things. The last place I worked at my employer was so cruel to me (name calling, gaslighting, belittling) and it really hurt me. I think it really changed the way I view things. Because of the nature of the industry i have met some awful people. I don’t share this rise and grind workset that most people have because I feel like it’s…
