Overwhelmed at work

Hi everyone. Sorry in advance if my grammars not great. Been a rough day. I work at a retirement home. Have for about 6 years, amd volunteered here for 4 years before hire. I have known my boss this whole time, and she's become a close friend during this time. She has been on and off work for about the past year due to health, and today discovered she has cancer and has no idea when or if she will return. I have been acting manager in her place while she has been out. I loved my job, but after the treatment from managers I am so overwhelmed and tired. We have been short staffed and have had three people in the last 5 months quit our department due to work issues. I have asked our general manager for help, or extra hours and a boost in pay to help…

Save up some money and start a business

You can do anything lawn care/car detailing/box truck business…if your gonna work under someone you will get fucked over that's reality. You can work on your own schedule and don't have to take shit from your employer that's greedy invest in yourself. Anyways just feel like I need to state the obvious here feel like most of us are not actually anti work but just hate to work for other people.

Don’t get too comfortable around banks

What makes you think the US won’t order a bank freeze against its own citizens?

I don’t think WFH is a good thing for the labor movement

Myself, like many here, generally have held positive views about the right to work from home, and how it allows us to better live our lives as we see fit. But I've been working from home for a long time now, and I have to say that I've noticed some pretty critical issues with it, from a movement perspective. Sense of community among workers – A lot of discussion goes on here about unionising, organising, building communities. Working from home actively isolates workers from each other, and removes an inherent bond that I feel is built by face-to-face cooperative labor. This is the problem with capitalism as a system: it keeps people docile and self-hating because it isolates them. It keeps people from revolt by keeping them self-interested. Work-from-Home has extended this even further. Visibility of abuse or special treatment – One of the benefits of working in the office,…

Need advice on how to handle this workplace situation. After my response, a higher up contacted me and told me that if a situation like this happens again, I am to stay silent and not call out the unprofessional tone. Was I wrong?

Withholding employment separation certificate

Hi quit my job in January and was overpaid in my last pay. How it works here in Australia is that you can’t get welfare (Centrelink) until you have a Employment separation certificate. Well I’ve been chasing that up for the last few weeks and today I got an email saying they won’t give me one until I pay the overpayment amount in full. The problem is I don’t have the money it was $900. I’m wondering if anyone here knows if this is legal? (In Australia) Thanks in advance

Completely drained working my first job.

My first and current job is at a regular retail craft store- put simply I hate it. It's overbearing, draining, and the typical overworked-underpaid. They constantly expect/coerce employees to work themselves mad but are quick to catch an attitude when you need a day off or help. I went from full time + a shit ton of overtime, to now part-time and seriously considering putting in my two weeks… and I've actually been thinking about it for a while now. Im 18 and the adult life is very much new to me. The only thing really holding me back is what is the BEST way to move on with my work life. I fear if I quit this job my life will just spiral downward. Most people secure a new job before they leave one but finding one can take MONTHS and I really can't see myself staying where I'm…

Anyone have good HR experiences?

Hey everyone, I’m currently in school learning to be in HR management. I’m relatively new to antiwork and I’m seeing mainly negative stories about HR and it got me wondering if pursuing this career is a good choice. Has anyone had any good, or positive interactions with HR? Please just be honest and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Should I send an email with exactly how I feel?

I have been with the same company for 16 years, started when we were small and we have grown considerably. I handle projects and had a partner in that until October when she left so I am now doing them all myself. Recently I have been having issues with our Sales People not doing the jobs correctly. When they sell something they have to fill out a form telling me what they sold and how it needs to be deployed. They are making mistakes, saying something shouldn’t happen that should or something should happen that shouldn’t. Causing me to basically deploy the product incorrectly and then scrambling to fix it. I brought this to the attention of my direct supervisor and he said he would address it but be forewarned that this could very well come back to bite me in the ass because the higher ups might decided that…
