Had a mandatory meeting at work an hour ago

Found out 2 days ago we were having a mandatory meeting at work today at 2:30 During said meeting (which lasted 20 mins), we were told our boss (owner of the stores) paid $1.1m in labor alone. Prior to this we were told that our dm would love to give us $20 an hour but said right now that isn’t feasible. But there’s only 5 stores they own. Running on being up for 23.5 hours now so forgive any errors but I just wanted to share this tidbit of info we were told. The store I work at (private company but I guess it would be considered a franchise since there’s 5 stores? Idk) has 11 employees. Idk about the other stores but yeah. Just wanted to share. Going to sleep now. Fuck the man!

Considering taking new job offer…feel guilty

Hey all! I hope this is the appropriate place for this. Like the title says I’m strongly considering a new job, but can’t shake the guilty feeling about leaving current company. Some background, I’ve been with current company for 4 years, first job out of college. I don’t have too many complaints or anything major – this new job would promote me and give me a significant pay raise and they provide way more career development and growth opportunities so it’s a no brainer, so why do I feel guilty thinking about leaving my current company? I like the people I work with so maybe it’s just my anxiety about trying to figure out what to say to my manager and how to quit. I am trying not to care too much because I know they will just replace me, but it’s hard to shake those feelings. I guess I’m…

Different work days…

Came home and discussed my working day with my older brother. Me: How did the new job go? Brother: I taught Multivariable calculus. How did yours go?? Me: …….. I helped the students fold plastic bags and put price tags on stuff…. Brother: … Me: …… Brother: Sounds like a useful day. Im an, at the moment, unemployed actor working at a school as a teachers assistant. My brother works as an advanced math and physics teacher at a research university.

How bad is your workplace air?

So my office never clears/changes their air filters (according to people who have worked here for a while and actually know where theyeven are). We have a trucking yard right outside with diesel/car exhaust being pumped out all day In close proximity. Almost every 30 minutes someone has to sneeze consistently. Every Wednesday at the end of the day I start to feel sick, headache and sore throat, which goes away the very next day when I'm WFH, and doesn't really pick up on Friday because weekend. How likely am I to get some chronic respiratory disease from this place? Anyone else with shitty workplace air?

Serious question

I hate getting up and going to work just as much as the next guy, but what does all of this sub do for a living. Genuinely curious after the subs recent publicity debacle.

I don’t know what todo anymore

So I’m at my wits end with my boss. She has said things in the past that aren’t okay such as getting a IUD so I’m not calling in sick once a month or so. She has shared my personal information with my coworkers, my dad got COVID but I live in a separate part of the house so my chances where low to begin with and I stayed home for 48 hours to make sure. She then told me that my co workers were uncomfortable with me being at work but I had asked my coworkers and none said they were uncomfortable. Now the newest thing that she has done is ask me to help pay for a coworkers towing ticket…context for that, me and my coworkers and boss went to a hockey game Saturday, my coworker picked me up on the way and we parked at a gas…

Has anyone put together directory of legal offices (in the US) to handle these “easy” wage discussion cases?

We hear here a lot that companies cannot forbid or fire you for discussing wages and that it would be a simple/quick/automatic lawsuit to sue the company for posting this BS. Often we hear that lawyers will likely take them pro bono to get fees from the company. I'm not so sure Can anyone name any firms/lawyers in any states/municipalities who are actually willing to do this so people have someone to contact when this comes up? Resources like this would be immensely helpful to those who find themselves in this sort of situation. Edit: I'll happily amend the post if I see any supplied in comments. Should I have to wear a tailored 3 piece suit for $13.50 an hour?

I used to wear one, and now they’re saying my current polo is inappropriate when it’s never been an issue before now.

I know there are very few, but what should happen to honest employers who are unable to pay above the currently changing minimum wage standard?

Employers who have tried to create something more for their employees, but are unable to provide for the recent pay rate increases to their employees. Is it better for the employees to be totally without jobs and being able to make money at all than it is for them to make at least some money while helping out?

Temp Agency impacting unemployment claim

So I recently made a post about how I was laid off unceremoniously from a position at the end of January. I immediately submitted my claim to EI (Canada's unemployment program) and was just waiting for the agency to submit my Record of Employment to the government so I could get my claim approved or denied. That was Jan 21st. It's not Feb 16th, and they still have not uploaded my RoE to the government. If the gov't denies my EI claim, I have to apply for welfare through the province which will take even more time. I'm trying to find information on whether or not I can take legal action for this but I'm not finding anything very helpful. Part of me wants to create an invoice for each day past the 20th it's taken to get my RoE at my previous rate, but I know they won't pay…
