And maybe “if you're going to increase starting wages for workers with no experience, you need to increase wages for the workers who have years of it and stayed loyal to you this long.”
I had floral and garden experience from working at Lowes years prior. A local florist was hiring. They noted my previous experience on my application, then they asked, “why didn't you apply for a job at Lowes then?” I answered, “I'm responding to your help wanted ad?” The interview was very awkward from there on.
Same owner for two businesses
What is the deal if you have the same owner and two different businesses? Let's just say I worked around 75-80 hours per week between two different places of businesses but have the same owner. Would someone be entitled to overtime in that situation?

If youre thinking of accepting a counteroffer from your soon-to-be-ex-company, think about it. It cost you TIME to search for another job, to go to interviews, and to have the LUCK of finding another company that would pay MORE than yours. Retention is extremely easy for the company, not you. To get something better you have to WORK to find it. And remember, when youre leaving, have everything in writing, from both companies. Dont leave without a contract or you could lose both jobs. ( I saw some stories like that )
And that leaves me and other already overworked staff having to work more. Shall I also go on one? Like I dont have a doctors note. And I am not crazily “stressed” since I am quite resourceful and take ownership. What shall I do…. Manager knows about lack of resourcing. Thing is she also handed in her notice recently. I could leave for other job but I want secondment hence I am staying with my current firm.
President’s Day
Why The hell do we have holidays in the US (President’s Day Tomorrow) if your fellow employees take it as a badge of honor to go into work.! You’re essentially shamed for even bringing it up. I’m not US born (I can get away with asking simple questions that I know the answer to) so I asked my manager at the last staff meeting this very question. “President’s Day isn’t really a holiday”I was told. But I replied without the added expletive “why then is it on the Glucking Calendar!!!!! Needed to get that off my chest. Thought of you fine people.
I left my workshop job back in august last year to go do causal site work. Alot better money and time off, work is a bit more sporadic but i don't mind it. Workshop job rang me after a month for a chat, they acknowledged that I had been doing a great job when I was there, even acknowledged I was doing the work of two people (which they wouldn't do when I asked for a payrise due to that fact right before I quit), then asked me to name my price to come back.. I wouldn't even give them a number, no amount of money will ever change or make a toxic work environment any better. Company is now in major trouble with WHS do to multiple safety breaches and I'm currently happy as Larry relaxing in the sun, picking and choosing when and where I want to work.
I found a role at my current company that is the same job as mine, just a different team with big accounts- which brings substantially more income for me. I’m at 180k now and this role pays 230-250k! (According to the internal recruiter) I’m over the moon exciting, ready to apply and interview knowing I’m well qualified. I go through 4 interviews in 4 days the following week and the hiring manager calls me on Friday to verbally offer me the role! I’m nearly in tears! I then contact the recruiter to discuss where I’ll land in the 230-250k range ….he comes back and tells me that HR and the hiring manager feels that an 8% raise is what they’re going to offer me and that it’s “really good”! I turn around and call the hiring manager back like WTF. She then tells me she wants someone that wants the…
Knowing you can tell your boss to screw off and easily find another good job seems like it would positively impact mental health. Anyone know of any studies measuring this across geo and/or industries?
