Combative Negotiations
I’ve seen a lot of screenshots and samples of combative counters to offers and responses to recruiters. While the frustration and anger is certainly warranted, it can be counterproductive if you still have an interest in working with that organization. Coming out in an argumentative way triggers a psychological fight response in the counter party that increases the likelihood they’ll push back or write you off, rather than acquiesce to your demands, or even consider finding a middle ground. There are times when it’s completely a lost cause, or their offer/behavior indicates they’re not a company you’d want to be a part of. I have no support from the supermarket attached including security who does nothing.. and constantly turns a blind eye and a store manager who seems to detest me and constantly gives me weird looks. Just 2 hours ago I had a woman verbally abuse me and walk out with a 30 dollar bottle of wine and when I went on my 15 minute break after the store manager starts berating me why I didn't call the police..I'm supposed to do everything myself and make a report on my break? Should I report him? Should I quit and find another job? I'm so clueless and this is one of my first ever jobs I have no clue how to improve these kinds of processes within my role and I just want to not feel like crap…
