Job won’t give me a raise so I’ve been not working for months.

I bust(ed) my ass for my job. I make $20/hour and generate hundreds of thousands in revenue. I am by far the most productive on my team. My supervisor quit suddenly two years ago and I stepped up and took on a lot of her work for about eight months, including helping train the new boss. I didn’t complain. I didn’t get a raise, either. This year they increased the cost of our health insurance by $3000. They denied me a raise last year because of ??? (my evaluations are always great, but they said something something economy). This year they’re avoiding talking about it or my bonus. They also denied me a promotion to a different job with more money because I’m “too good” at my current job, and instead gave it to an outside hire. In response, I’ve basically stopped working. I WFH and we don’t have those…

For those blessed to still be able to WFH..

I’m so glad I don’t have to trudge through Boomer work politics (at least not in person). All the small talk, not being given credit for work, and passive aggressiveness. I feel like all the VPs that live and breathe work politics (boot lickers) want the underlings to come back into the office.

I quit my decent job

I (M18) was working at a Jack in the box and quit last Thursday. I been there for almost 7 months now. Everything was going pretty good. I had just moved to that city not knowing anyone and become friends with some of my coworkers (still hanging out even after quitting) and we had just gotten raises this new year ($15). As time kept going I got tired of the customers and the boss(M47). I had been thinking about moving on for a while now but didn’t think it would have been so soon. But last Tuesday I had my final straw. For the past month before that, my boss kept switching up my schedule every week. Each one worse than the other. I went from only working in the morning with my friends, to something in between and to all afternoon shift with me as the only cashier (having…

Opinion on the military?

I've been lurking on this sub for about a week and I enjoy the stories and drama that goes on here but I find that a lot of these problems that people face here wouldn't exist if they were in the military. Not to bash anyone's beliefs or career choices, we all walk our own path but I feel so bad when I read posts about people not getting enough hours, not enough pay, no benefits, having insane student loan debt etc. I was a manager at a McDonald's for 3 years and a manager at a Jamba Juice for 2 and even though I loved the people I worked with, I hated every second of those jobs. I despised putting on a happy face every day for asshole customers and work 8+ hours just to barely make $1000 a week. Things got so bad that eventually I decided that…

I work at the Wyndham hotel in food and beverage. Need some advice.

I worked at the Wyndham hotel, on food and beverage, and I need some advice. Me and a group of my coworkers have been having a lot of trouble with our manager and the head of the food and beverage department. Apparently if for any reason this two people don’t like you they are trying to do anything to fire you. Ironically they are short of staff and they need us more than we need them. I went to HR today February 28th to express my concerns. It all begins because I can’t be quite whenever they are treating me or anyone disrespectfully. I can guaranty that we are doing a great job, I have been in the industry on an off for 19 years, this is the first time that I work for a hotel and a big corporation like Wyndham. Is there anyone that I can talk to…

When to put in my 2 weeks?

So i just landed an awesome job. It’s been a long 6 years at my current company, lots of stress, little sleep, and not enough pay. I just got a verbal offer from this new company and waiting for them to send me the formal offer letter. They already told me the pay. It’s a very popular corporate company and they said they are processing my formal offer letter. This should be finalized by the end of this week! The HR person was super nice and suggested that I pass the background check before I put in my 2 weeks. I am dying to put in my 2 weeks. Is there any reason that I should not tell my company once i sign the offer letter? Should i wait until after I pass the background check? I know for a fact I will pass my background check lol.

Quit a well-paying job at Hilton.

I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and finally got the coveted General Manager position. Turns out, this particular company expects the position to work 80 hours a week, be on call 24/7, and coddle incompetent managers who are incapable of guiding operations, let alone employees. They were hired or promoted into their positions without having the necessary skills or experience and the failure was inevitable. This is endemic in the industry right now and it is hard to blame people placed in these positions. I blame the company entirely. By the way, it’s not Hilton‘s fault, the majority of their properties are franchised and operated by various property management companies. Leaving the job wasn’t easy, because I care about the people working there, for the most part… a few bad eggs. Higher wages and not promoting the wrong people into positions out of desperation could…

“Substantial” raise?

Curious what one would consider a “Substantial” raise? If you are making, let’s say, 20$ hr or even 30$ hr. What do you think of when your boss says you have a “substantial” raise coming your way? Edit: Wow, y’all are all over the place. There’s a range of 3-20%. If I’m make 25$ hr and get a 3% raise, that’s .75$ more an hour and come out to an extra 1500$ a year (not even a months worth of rent for me) or 20% which is an extra 10,000$ a year (which pays for almost half a year of rent.) I go from not paying rent to buying a house in a year. Which is it? if anyone wants to put some bets down for what raise I actually get next month, I will update when the raise happens. I make 25$ hr now, you got be exact with…
