Adding up all my expenses that I have no choice but to pay equals 1200 a month. This doesn't include my medical gas or anything unexpected ot extra & I would have to eat the cheapest food I can get. Even if I have food stamps I still need more than 1k. Like is my math wrong? Is this possible I would need $24 at 50hrs or $30 at 40hrs the only other option is a 2nd person and we work $16 for 40hrs each. I keep getting job offers at $11hr I don't get this. Please tell me my math is wrong but my bills are as anemic as I could make them I have cheaper rent than anyone else & I still can't do it. After no pay rises in the past three years whilst the company I work for bulks up their bank account (yes, I have access to it) I had started pressing about a pay rise since before Christmas. Everytime I mentioned it my boss (the owner of the company) he would tell me that he's thinking about it yet nothing ever happens. Got sick before work last night and went in because I can’t afford to miss work (both because I need the money and I’ve only been here a month and a half). Miscommunication happened and none of the supervisors heard I left but my coworker knew. In the morning my direct supervisor asked my coworker what happened then asked the other supervisors if they were told and they said no. The one supervisor (who also came and talked to me tonight) said if I was under him he’d see it as a voluntary quit and fire me. My coworker says he doesn’t think it’ll happen because it’s up to our supervisor but he also doesn’t know. A few weeks ago I was contacted directly by a tech company. Since I had been waiting on an final agreement for a 10% raise at my current company for 6 months, I decided to talk to them. It turned out to be exactly the kind of work I was interested in and languages I wanted to code in. I aced all their technical interviews and was made an offer. Today, both my lawyer signed off on the new contract, AND unanounced my boss gave me the raise I had been waiting for since last fall. Nothing against my current boss and work. I love them all. I'm lucky. But the new company has much more interesting work. And they offered me a 100% pay increase PLUS equity.
