TL;DR: School principal sent staffing needs form, worried if I respond honestly that I won't be coming back they will take away my two months of paid summer vacation. Long time lurker, never thought I'd have anything to add to here but I have a question. I currently work as a teacher at a middle school, and needless to say I am far from thrilled in my current role. My background is in sports medicine (collegiate athletic trainer for 2 years prior to coming here) and I am looking to get out of this environment. The school dumps an unbelievable amount of responsibility on me because I am somewhat comfortable in a lot of things that are not anywhere near my job description (i.e, somehow becoming the IT person, handle all of the audio/visual equipment for assemblies, etc.), and despite having a masters degree in sport and fitness administration, I…
I can’t tell you how many union “bullies” stories I’ve heard. As much as I’d like to see more unions, I’m very much anti-grossly overpaid windbags
Am a 29 yr old male employed by a company under a multinational. You all know how it is with multinationals. My monthly pay is roughly 400us after taxes.(Am in a middle management position). My first born is on the way. It got me thinking into investments and led to me to research and a found out gaps in developing countries and developed countries. A friend of mine started a registered microfinance and they lend US dollars at 25%. Investors are offered 4% per month(tax free). I found out that in USA or developed countries there is no such return on any investment. Regestering your own microfinance requires US25k as capital. The problem is this, l have no that kind of money but not impossible to raise. Why do you all think??…….to be continued
Do I move or accept a counter?
Not sure if this is the right sub for this question but I’m interested in what people think so here goes. I’m relatively happy with my current employer, my job isn’t too taxing and I believe I am paid fairly. Recently a former colleague contacted me about a job working with him. Other details aside, the job would pay a good amount more (approx 35%) for similar work albeit with more travelling involved and some more responsibility. I believe they could offer further career development in the future where as the job I have now is relatively static due to the small team. The question; I’m sure that my current employer would be keen to keep me and would likely counter offer, I’m not sure they’d match the pay rise exactly but I think I could get a decent bump at least. I’ve seen it said before that you shouldn’t…
Might not be the right place for this post so forgive me. Any ideas on how to politely explain phone storage to retired loved ones who send daily “words of wisdom” or “have a great day” posters via text? Don’t want to be mean but tired of deleting it everyday as it fills up my phone storage.
The company I work for as it stands are still going to send its delivery drivers into the areas where there is a red weather warning, haven't spoken to any staff who would need to travel to work from that area and it just feels like they are brushing it under the carpet a little. For anyone that doesn't know what a Red weather warning is . The red warning area indicates a significant danger to life as extremely strong winds provide the potential for damage to structures and flying debris. Although the most exposed coastal areas in the south and west could see gusts in excess of 90mph, winds will remain notably strong further inland, with gusts of between 70-80mph for most within the amber warning area.” More details here: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2022-02-17 Many schools are already closing and we've had sensible customers phone in to cancel orders due to the…
like job but hate “training”
I have a job as a database administrator that I like most days. I wish I didn't have to work, but at least it's interesting and challenging most days. Most days, i don't have to deal with people, which is great because I'm a raving introvert and I value my privacy. We are a small nonprofit that does training and workforce development. Our clients and staff are diverse. We have a new HR director that has been requiring two DEI staff trainings a month going forward. I hate them. The focus has been on letting staff talk about their feelings about how toxic the workplace is, even though some acknowledge that they haven't felt mistreated here. We will have a four hour, in person meeting next week to do this again. I don't understand what the goal is supposed to be. Will we all feel better when it's over? I…
Let’s skip to the good part…
Hypothetically, if capitalism is successfully dismantled and a new labor-valuing system is put in place, how would it work? What methodology would be used to determine value? What methodology would be used to apportion scarce resources?
