My roommate (not on Reddit) is currently working for USAA but was hired through a temp agency in March '21. He lived in Vegas, NV when he was hired, but lives in CA now (since April '21). The job is 100% WFH. Recently, a boss of his told him his IP address showed he was in CA not NV. No document he has ever received/signed has any language about residency requirements, moving, address change notifications, etc. He was given an ultimatum, consisting of 3 options. 1: Move back to NV to WFH there. (He cannot as his car was totaled, he is saving for new one) 2: Take a leave of absence 3: Resign I have suggested he decline to accept those 3 options, and see if he can keep working there, from home here. He is actively job hunting in his free time. He has zero write-ups / issues…
Any questions?
Nothing has changed in 130 years.
Starbucks fires the entire union-organizing committee at a store in Memphis? I'd expect more outrage on this sub.
I'll try to keep it short. Basically my gf works for a Japanese steakhouse food chain called “kojis” she's a server and hostess. She works well does her job right and receives no complaints. She's on time, doesn't miss work, and even comes in on days off. The point is she's not a shitty worker deserving to be punished. Today she made a meal exactly as a customer orders. She comes back after turning in the order and the lady says “oh did I say (insert meal name Here) I meant (another meal name) gf says okay no big deal. Changes the order to what she said she wants and takes it to the kitchen. When she comes back to the table with the food the lady tells her “oh never mind we don't want it it'll probably be bad by the time we get home” so she doesn't pay…
My boss threatened me today
I work as a handyman in a retirement community in VA. They allowed me to live here at a severely reduced rent for six months while I work here. The whole process was sketchy and rushed and I admit I should have taken more precautions but these days we all know how hard it is to find an offer like this. Well the idea was I would be able to fix maintenance issues for the community when no other crew member was available. The past four weeks of my life since starting here have been an absolute rollercoaster. They dug up my personal life, forced me to talk about my sexual orientation, tried to force my wife and I into a separation (whole other story) have refused to train me while simultaneously riding my ass about not learning or pulling my weight. I was keeping my head down and going…
As a systems guy I find Mondragon interesting on an organizational level. They have an internal economy of cooperatives, with cooperatives for social safety nets, pensions, health care, and unemployment. Some critics say this would never work in the U.S. in part because we're too individualistic, even though we already have some successful kinds of cooperatives like credit unions, but I disagree. We have the technology. I think someone could feasibly build a service to connect workers to form businesses. Workers could be organizing, starting their own cooperatives, and cooperative alliances, instead of putting up with the constant b.s., and even drive meaningful change. If you could, would you? What do you think is stopping this from happening? More info on Mondragon Corp. *This was originally meant to be a poll but for some reason that option isn't available here.
