For reference I worked about 3-4 shifts before I quit cuz it was clashing with my school schedule They do payment by cheque and I have not received any of those payments I wasn’t able to access the payroll system or anything so I don’t have that but I know how much they owe me I went to pick up my cheque when my manager instructed me and they told me they didn’t receive the cheques yet and that they’ll receive it on Monday I don’t get paid to drive 40 minutes and skip my class to go there , so I never that was January 14,2022 as of February 12,2022 I messaged my manager and HR telling them I haven’t received anything and I will be filing a complaint if I don’t receive a cheque – no response I don’t know what to do I need my money
Firstly, I, like most of my EX-co-workers, am living with my parents, working there part time and my all of my checks goes into my savings (mostly.) Why I am mentioning this is because I feel bad comparing our situation with people in need of their well earned check. Of course I can’t speak for all my co-workers and of their situation. My employers of half a year were non-existant mostly. The under managment was the face of the company for us and are well liked, justifiably. However the workers of this company have been cheated out of their money, let me explain. So every holiday where this company is closed they take their employees of the work schedule, which are their repeated shifts. That way they take advantage of their employees who don’t know their rights. This I do not abide. I sent them an email when I got…
The never ending capitalist treadmill.
I feel like a gerbel on a wheel. The multi billion dollar a year company I work for made record profits last year during the pandemic, exceeding revenue goals and estimates by 20%. So, what do they do when they set goals for this year? Are they happy to just have growth and survive the year? Of course not! They raise this year's goals another 20%! So I guess we are expected to grow their business 20% per year from now on or no commission for us. Fantastic.
(Long story sorry) I worked for a company (last day was yesterday) for over 5 years, the last 3.5 in IT. About a year and half ago I moved onto a team that had 1 other person on the team. This person was considered the “golden child” by our upper leadership and could do no wrong. From day 1 on this team, this person was bad mouthing the prior person she had to train and work with and this continued for about 3 months. There was little to no training from her, just her constantly complaining about this other person. One day I finally just said I heard enough about how bad this person was and needed help figuring out this new system we were suppose to be working on. From that moment on her sights were set on me and for next year she went out of her way…
Quitting a job is ok.
I'm trying to find an article from a few years back. I recall it made reference to the situation with Tesla, but I recall it also made some good points about small business owners in general playing the role of both (1) “petty tyrant” over the millions of franchise restaurant employees as well as (2) financier for Republican campaigns to rig the economy. Sound familiar?
A lesson from history
As an anarchist and a history nerd I feel the need to point out: THE SORT OF IDEOLOGICAL GATEKEEPING THIS SUB IS CURRENTLY ENGAGING IN IS HOW LABOR MOVEMENTS DIE In the real world we do not have the luxury of worrying about ideological purity, the hard facts are that we as anarchists are a tiny, tiny minority. If we want to actually accomplish ANYTHING beyond sitting around having a philosophical circle jerk we need to be open to working with ANYONE who is willing to work with us in good faith, no matter how misguided we think they might be. Creating an atmosphere of hostility and exclusion like y'all are doing not only deprives us of allies, it deprives us of recruits.
