What was something you noticed after you had already planned on quitting your job, that made you feel good about quitting your job?

Quite possibly the worst guest I’ve ever dealt with

A friend and coworker encouraged me to post this here after reading a slightly different version of this on r/lifeguards. About 10 years ago I started lifeguarding at a very common chain of gyms named for a certain definite article of a Romance language. Let's call it EL Fitness. 10 years ago at EL Fitness I had the pleasure of working morning shift. Every weekday I was at the same pool at 5am. I don't know why the gym opened this early. The place was basically dead at this hour, although it did give me time to complete a few chores and do some reading. Until about a month into my job, we got a new regular. He was a white guy in his 40's and chiseled from fucking marble. He was tall, shaved bald and sharply dressed in a black power suit with a matching black briefcase. You could…

Looking for Volunteer programs is also pretty depressing.

I've been looking to actually do something with my life besides selling my soul to corporate America to ease some of the stress of my decadent western existence, mostly interested in some kind of Hospice volunteering or working in a soup kitchen. But it's also a challenge navigating because, predictably enough, there's plenty of people looking to exploit and profit off of your good will. I'm already looking at a “non profit” that is effectively just a thrift store job that “donates to empowering women”, and just reads like a job advertisement. Roles and Responsibilities: – Educate shoppers on the story and mission of [Not giving you native advertising assholes] – Develop customer relationships by continually developing knowledge of current trends and styling techniques – Determine customer needs and makes proper suggestions – Drive results through delivering an elevated customer experience – Ensure all merchandise is properly displayed and the…

Let them Fail, Dont Support them

Office Jobs that are in constant training specifically due to high staff turnover should just Fail, or marked “In need of Improvement” and therefore be shamed into improving. They use lables to make us all feel useless, use them against them too. Alot of places clearly dont know how to retain staff, it seems like nothing is changing and companies just double down on exploiting the most out of you for the least they can pay, less than Minimum if they could get away with it. I'd honestly rather just buy and resell online than work for some explotative company, but of course money makes money, I Hope things start to improve soon.

Good news!

So I landed a job in the field my degree is in (engineering) after a few months of working on grounds keeping post graduation while I was looking for a job. I was really nervous about giving my two weeks notice to my boss as he had always been a good boss thus far. I got the call with the job offer and almost shit myself because it was double my current wage. I told my boss right after, and glad to say he took it really well and even called me after work to say he was happy for me and if I need anything after my two weeks to let him know. I know most people don’t have that type of boss but I’m grateful here. Let’s hope my upcoming boss is just as kind.

Temp agency turned me away for THC in a medical state…

I suffer from extreme insomnia about 60% of my nights leading to upwards of 50 or more hours with no sleep. Im working on getting a medical card but insomnia isn't a listed reason to have it in my state so I have to appeal for it and it's taking a long time. My job I was at suffers from an employee number issue and I happen to be the only one who would actually show up cause everyone else was worthless. I ended up leaving because the overtime and stress was brutalizing my home life so I contacted my old work (who everyone in the office smokes) and they made me go piss test at a fed med office. Tried to fake it with clean piss. Failed. Went to a temp agency to supplement my pay for a lower paying job I took instead. They piss tested me, I…

Denied a raise

I’ve worked at the same company for 5 years. I asked for a raise this year. I make $14.70. When I asked for a raise, my manager said “well, that’s in line with what we pay” and sort of brushed me off. IDK what to do.

Client we are contracting for is requiring us to come into their offices 2-3 times a week for no other reason than “bums in seats”.

I work for a engineering consulting firm and this post honestly risks me getting fired if it somehow makes it back to me but whatever I'm sick of companies dictating to me how/where I get to work when I can easily do everything from home. We consult for many large companies including but not limited to the banks, mining corporations, telecoms etc. Mods feel free to DM me if you require proof. Anyway we have been working remotely for said client since before the pandemic and we do sometimes go into the office but not because we have to, it's because we want to i.e. maybe getting together for a team lunch or team event but never because someone decided it is a work-from-office day. Anyway the CEO of said client has now mandated that all employees, contract or permanent, have to go into the office 2-3 days a week.…

Don’t pursue a career with the USFS

I’m reposting this from r/wildfire after a couple of requests. A post I’ve made about ending my 10 year career with the United States Forest Service, and ranting areas of frustration on Reddit. I am still posting on a throwaway account to remain completely anonymous. Formatting was done via iPhone, sorry for any typos. Stop pursuing this as a career TL/DR: unhappy employee ranting After 10 years with the FS, I’m putting in my resignation. The best advice I can give to someone interested in this career is to apply your energy elsewhere. Here’s why. Advancement: advancement is painstakingly slow unless you’re willing to bounce around every few years to different forests. Which hey, more power to you if you think that fits your life style. I thought it fit mine until I became less interested in the nomad fire life and more interested in starting a family. Pay: Most…
