I’ve worked some pretty shit jobs in the past- constant clopens, overbearing bosses etc but my new job takes the cake. Not going to give too much detail as I don’t want to deal with potential retribution but they don’t “do” breaks despite state law and keep scheduling me outside of my posted availability. Yes, I’m going to report them. Yes, I’m looking for a new job. I just can’t believe they’ve gotten away with not letting employees take breaks for close to a decade.

Where I work, the hiring manager wanted to hire someone to work at our restaurant 6 days/80 hours per week. I asked him if he would consider splitting it into two jobs, one 3 days per week and one 4 days. So, you know, the people could have a life. At first he was reluctant, because he wanted one manager and one set of rules. But after thinking about it, he took my advice! Now two people have jobs, and they can both enjoy life.

Even though my company had two consecutive record breaking years in terms of revenue, at the first whiff of a downturn, they laid off several entire departments of employees this week. Their solution to the layoffs? Spread that work out to the employees that we didn't cut and refuse to offer any sort of raise. I have not had my pay revisited in a year and a half, so already would be making less money than last year at my same rate; now on top of it, I get to absorb the workloads of multiple departments I previously relied on, on a daily basis. Now I'm kicking myself for not being more dispensable as I would be in a better position today if I had just been laid off. I started my company at a young age to attempt to have a sustainable income doing the same thing I did for many other companies. I charged clients for materials up front with no up charges and receipts were handed directly to clients to show exactly what they paid for. I never lost a bid almost always coming in less then half of any competition and still made a good life for myself and others. My employees were from all different walks of life, some were even drug addicted when coming to me for work. I helped employees get clean from drugs, I was able to provide housing, food and in some cases even provided new clothes until they were stable and ready to do it on their own. I was sexually assaulted at my last job by a relative of the HR person. The company defended the assailant. I originally posted a Glassdoor review that immediately saw users bumping the “helpful” button…. until Glassdoor removed my review a month later, apparently because of an accidental glitch that occurred when I originally posted. It does not sit right with me that new employees would accept a position without the information that they could potentially face bodily harm while working for this business. I’m considering posting the review underneath the company’s “we’re hiring!” posts on LinkedIn. Thoughts?
