Hey everyone this is my first post to this sub and I just needed to vent about this while I take a brief break from mass-applying to new jobs. I work (or used to work) at walmart. During my less than 8 months at the store, I was trained as and used as a manager frequently (for associate pay), while being led on that I was going to be promoted. When a position opened up, my manager held interviews for associates to be promoted to the position, but i was never informed of these interviews or even that the position had become available. By the time I became aware, interviews were over and the position was filled. After this, I decided I no longer wanted to be a manager amongst other reasons. Still I would come into work and be handed keys and told “the opening manager called out and…
This guest house called me for an interview like a month ago and the general manager was yawning when she was interviewing me. then they didn't reach out after that, then suddenly two days ago I got a call if I was interested in being a kitchen attendant, I am still looking for a stable job and was like let's give this a try. Went out booking a ride in this fucking snowstorm and then I go there the manager isn't here. They send some guy to show me around and train me. He goes around in a long rambling about how the manager is strict and he doesn't want to get in trouble. he also says there's like a break to eat something but on that hour you can't fucking take a break because there's no one to replace me. Then they say I need to clean toilets and…
And how are they doing it you ponder? By delaying our raises which usually happens in March. They're delaying it until July. This isnt a small mom and pop shop. This is a main insurance company. They're not hurting for money. But the shareholders are worried about their investment ! Weve been working OT since October and met our goals but we're the one being punished. Just funny how it's never the people at the top that have to sacrifice their money and time to meet the company's quarter goals huh?

I finally joined a Union
So after procrastinating and putting it off for years I finally decided to get off my arse and sign myself up to a Union. I will say that in the 7+ years I've worked for my current employer I've never really had any issues, and my annual salary has increased by about £14,000 since I started working there so I guess I never really had much of a push to sign up. A few years ago however my employer was purchased by a major American Telecomms company (You can probably figure out who I work for from that) and until recently the US company seem to have more or less left us alone, however just this last week or so I found out about something that finally gave me that push I need. Basically we were informed that the US Parent Company have a (Wholly owned) department in India which…
