Well I'm not, but they'll probably fire me eventually. Job: grocery stock clerk. Pay:$13/hr The op: I told the right people that I was seeing a new psychiatrist and adjusting to new meds. That gave me an excuse to erratically show up late for a couple weeks. Then I faked having Omnicron and let their incompetent corporate covid policy cover for my lack of a test. I stalled working for them for 2 weeks before “recovering”. Now I come in when I want for as long as I want. They desperately need a big man who can single handedly pull out huge pallets of water (which by their own policy should need two people at least). The actual in store management is starting to actually get pissed about it so the writing may be on the wall. So, potential final phase is to take my immediate manager out for a…
Manjuu Obunnas Wayma fuente
I was hired back in December for a remote WFH covid job. Did all the training in January and hadn’t heard an update for a few weeks besides “be patient” and they got confirmation that the project had begun,so I emailed and asked for another update (I kinda need paid to live and save to live off for college). And they mass emailed everyone saying they hired us thinking they’d need more employees and they don’t …. So basically fired me after waiting/training for almost three months. Now I have 6 months to save up for college and I’m so annoyed. I applied for 38 jobs today… I’m THAT desperate and panicked. End rant
Okay, and? If you can't even pay minimum wage to your workers, you shouldn't even open bussines/ hire people in a first place.
I’m getting shafted by my jobs wages.
In October I had my review. My boss congratulated me, full of praise and told me he had put me forward for a 10% pay rise with our American owners (we’re UK). November: nothing. December: maybe not. January: ask at the end of the quarter Today: email from America saying we need to cut costs as inflation has risen beyond expectations, don’t expect anything for 18 months. They’re not even matching inflation!! I’m on £23,000 PA. Inflation is 7%, plus a tax increase of 1.25% in April. How is this fair? What do I do? No other jobs near me in my area for what I do (CAD operator, warehouse). I’m pissed because my company has loads of jobsworths not worth their salt and I have a baby on the way and getting married this year. Inflation rises year on year anyway, and if your cost increases, so does your…
Which union to organize with?
My workplace is ripe for unionizing. Most of my coworkers are game. Health insurance went up, raises were 3-6%, they're firing good people for stupid shit. I can't really find a good answer to this. I'm not sure what union to contact. We are in New England and manufacture paint for a well known brand.
I’m asking because I get mixed answers because some say a living wage should be that you can live on your own and/or support a family off of it including all necessities but I don’t know of one country In the world where with the minimum wage with one earner it pays enough for a person to live by themselves or to be able to support a family off the one income with a minimum wage. I have had some explain a living wage as being able to do that and I’ve had others explain it’s about making enough for the necessities to live (healthcare, food, utilities, phone, transportation etc) but living arrangements could be with roommates. I’m just curious what the consensus is here on what a living wage would/should cover.
Unionize or not?
I work in manufacturing as a welder for a company that builds construction equipment. I’ve been with the company off and on for about 5 years now. Since 2020 it’s seemed to have gone down hill. I left for what I thought was gonna be a better job and came back to this company with an offer to make over 25 an hour which is decent money where I live. HR pulls me in a couple weeks later saying that I don’t qualify for that we’re gonna drop you down to the entry level rate of 21 an hour. I decided to take that in stride because of everything else going on in my life but I decided to talk to a United Steel Workers rep about unionizing because of this and the way management is. My only issue is convincing others to join me. The parent company has some…
