I’ve worked full time since I was 16. Apprentice wage was £2.97 back then and I managed to maintain a rented house on my own by working ridiculous hours and eating mostly noodles & bread. I’m 23 now and I’ve somehow fumbled my way up the ladder to a 30k sales role. I’m good at my job, it’s secure, it’s fulfilling and I don’t despise it like almost all other jobs I’ve had. But I feel no happier or successful than I did 7 years ago. That realisation got me thinking. Is accommodation (in the conventional sense) really worth the cost? Is it worth sacrificing most of my waking life for? I’ve been unemployed for 3 months of the 7 years I’ve lived independently and despite the constant financial stress; I felt so much more free. I managed to lose weight, kick bad habits and get my life together. You…
Lying on your resume
Do Jobs actually check if you are bullshitting on your resume? Like would they check if you actually have a college degree.
Back on my feet.
Hey yall, I'm not sure if update post are allowed in here. Never read the rules, I'm on mobile. Anyway just wanted to say LANDED THE BEST JOB IVE EVER HAD!!! I know this is antiwork and all but I posted a month ago about being tired and out of work and screwed over here and there. But this is much much happier post. I got a job making $70k a year, last year I made 21.5k. I can not fucking believe it. My wife and I combined last year made 48k. This has been one of the best thing to happen to my family. The work isn't the most rewarding and there's a lot of overtime. But I'm hourly and am so inspired to make as much money there as I can for a couple years. Again. I know this is anti….antiwork But me and my family are just…
Disney and Domino’s (Orlando, FL)
Gonna be a shorter post than usual, but these two companies suck. Been working at Domino’s since December 1st and it’s been a nightmare since then. Coworker recently quit after a year of verbal abuse from the female manager. male and female manager are married btw. Female manager is also pregnant which she frequently uses as an excuse to dodge tasks and berate people. Your happiness at the job is entirely related to how much you play house with them and it’s unbearably cringeworthy how the teacher’s pet coworkers talk about “being their kids.” Female coworker does nothing, teacher pet #1 is constantly angry at me despite the fact that I rarely talk, this whole job is driving me crazy – and this is just the petty stuff. Over the last two months they’ve stolen 80$ in tips from me, which apparently is loopholed because “I” used “too much cheese.”…
It is not red vs blue, it’s the lower class vs the upper class. There is a grey line in the middle, let’s say the grey line spreads from people making more than 60k a year to over 100k a year as individuals, where we know that a large majority of people making under 100k a year, especially in more expensive areas, face the same exact financial issues, where the only difference is by how much they are living paycheck to paycheck, and all still see regular medical checkups and other basic monthly/yearly things as luxury items. One of the biggest things that low wage earning right wingers argue against low wage earning left wingers is stuff like abortion, or when to teach sexual education, and other stuff that right wing media hosts use against religious people. At the top, left wing and right wing voters, politicians, lawmakers, and media…
How it feels to get hired in modern days
2 week notice is discretionary
Nobody is required to give 1 weeks. The idea that it’s required is made up out of an assumed aid to the company. Would you receive a two weeks notice before being fired/laid off? Absolutely not. I recent left a company (union) told them I’d give them 2 weeks so they could find somebody to take my project over. Didn’t need to, but with 10 years with the company I wanted to give them that at least. Didn’t leave because I was wronged or anything, just the company not offering the overtime and whatnot I was looking for. Decided after a week I was just done, it was awkward, I still went to meetings but why was I really there. You don’t owe a previous employer anything. If you have a new job, why are you waiting to switch?
(Using throaway account because I don't want to get identified) – I got hired alongside 4 other peope -We were supposed to be paid on a Monday -They kept deflecting or ignoring me when I asked how we were going to get paid -After the manager ignored multiple messages over several days regarding payday they said that '' I was not a good fit for te role'' and let me go alongside 2 other people. -We assume that ther strategy is to ''''hire''' 4 people at a time and fire 3 of them inside a week hoping that they are not bothered enough to press for pay. Which resuts in them getting free work from 3 people at every hiring cycle. I had to basically threten them just to get paid, these are their Glassdoor reviews, They most likely do this with everyone, I should have been more careful. Reviews:…
