So for context im a technician for a medical supply company here in California which serve hospices and private clients. Ive been with them for 6 months now. I setup hospital equipment including hospital beds, oxygen machines, nebulizers, suction machines etc. Them being a relatively new company I started at $15/hr and also as a contractor. That means I get no overtime even tho I average 12 OT hrs a week. They provide my work van and pay the gas. I figured id show them my professionalism, hardwork and commitment and get a raise after 30 days or so. Not even close even when I was told if I show them hardwork I would. Ive done beyond that. Never am late, I dont make mistakes and some of the patients even request me. Ive already been turned down for a raise 3 months ago citing they dont make enough yet?…
I've been getting paid off the books since last summer (14.50/hr for around 10 hrs a week) working with animals. The person I worked for was very passive aggressive and switched between that and being super nice. It was getting too stressful so I told them I was leaving and offered a month's notice. Ended up working two weeks: first they completely ignored that I handed in my notice, then they very bizarrely claimed I was ruining their livelihood by leaving, etc. After receiving another text blatantly ignoring that I was leaving, I blocked their number and sent an email with my final hours with an address they could mail the check to. I'm autistic, I absolutely cannot handle this kind of behavior from people. That was a few weeks ago. No check. It's for about $500 so I'm half tempted to cut my losses and avoid the crazy (rich…
Need some input
So, I started a new job this past Monday, and it's… not a good fit. I have the option to return to my old job (I am per diem and can pick up full time hours). I'd like to just fire off an email, but I'm not sure of the wording. My thoughts were just: “After working with your office the past few days, I don't think this is a good fit.” But I don't know if I should/want to elaborate. The schedule is NOTHING like what they told me, and they all talk smack about each other all day long. Especially if who they are talking about isn't there that day. It's really the culture and I think I should say something. Jobs love to put you on a “90 day probation” but never look at it as they are ALSO on a probationary period. Idk if I like…
Naming companies/employers in posts?
I understand some people just have a taste for discretion, but i see so many posts with no mention of the emoyer or has the names covered out to protect identities…. Why? I see it so much im beginning to wonder if there is some rule or reason for doing so that I’m not aware of. Im under the impression that most the people here arent too concerned with defending shitty companies shitty behavior, so why bother? If they didnt want to be recognized for it they shouldnt have done it. I totally get not wanting to throw a person under the bus, but companies arent people.
PTO not given
Hello guys, so I work at a call center in TX and I accrue PTO throughout the year, but it expires at the end of the year. It starts and ends on my hire date which was February 1st. So I submitted my request for PTO in early November and my days off were supposed to be early January. December came, and there was no response. Then January starts and my sup leaves the job. She was also one of the people in charge of approving PTO. No response in early January either. Then mid January comes and I email HR about this and they said they would email my manager. That same day my acting sup says that if we have any PTO requests to send them to a certain person. I dont, i wait for the HR response or manager response because at this point I'm not submitting…
I am not asking for a job, please don't interpret this as such, this is a rant of pure hatred against FAANG hiring practices. I am talking about leetcode problems for software engineering positions. People with a lot of experience are being forced to git gud at competitive programming, which has almost nothing to do with the job that is being asked. It's like judging a mathematician by how quickly he can invert a matrix by hand, or an architect by how quickly he can build a fence out of his own feces. As somebody who did work as an applied mathematician, but most recently as a software engineer, these problems are both boring and completely demotivating to the point where I would rather change my entire job field than have to do another one. While I am all for including people who did not have access to formal education,…
Boss gives me 15¢ raise
This happened a few years ago, and I'm posting from a throwaway account, so I feel safe talking about it now. I once worked for a franchised spa. I started at one of the franchise owner's locations for $9.50/hr + commission. I eventually started working at the call center he owned that took calls for a few different locations. The pay for the call center was $10/hr since there's no opportunity for commission. But since I was splitting my time between the call center and the spa for 3 months, I stayed at 9.50/hr. The call center started taking up more and more of my schedule, meaning I wasn't making the extra pay and also wasn't making commission. When I brought this up to the owner, he told me there's no way to have two different paycodes in ADP. One of my coworkers knew someone who had that set up…
Best job for semi-disabled 23y/o?
Idk where to post this, but here I go l. Lurk here often and love the movement! I'm a 23 yo male, living near Dallas tx, currently pursuing a degree full time. I saw a sign at a quik trip recently offering 19.50 an hour and was amazed! But I'm worried that because I have back problems, it would be an issue long term. Does anyone know of any well paying jobs that, Do not need me to: Stand for >30minutes Lift 30lbs Are part time
It's amazing what shitty management can do. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a journalist. I wrote for the school paper all through high school. I interned at the city paper, and even wrote some articles that were front page. During my junior year my voice changed and it turned out that I had a decent radio voice. Some might say a face for it too. lol Either way, I started angling to go into broadcasting, and majored in it during college. Fast forward a few years and I was offered a job at the local radio station network where I grew up. It was a great chance to go back to my home town and be in the city where my girlfriend (now wife of 20 years next month) lived. All was good…for a bit. Now I knew radio can be shit. On air staff…
I already want to quit
I've only been at my new job for a month and I'm ready to run. It's not bad but they expect a lot without much training and it's freaking me out. I have a history of anxiety and depression with ADHD diagnosed. This job has made my anxiety be a 10/10 for the last week even though it's 'easy' compared to my last one. My husband finally got a new job after months of unemployment and even though he hasn't said anything I know he's upset I'm that my anxiety is so high. I hated my old job but I wish I had never taken this new one. Even with the pay increase it just does not seem worth it.
