Ayy y’all, I’m a long time member of this sub, though I don’t post much. I was wondering if anyone would want to join a leftist Java minecraft server I’ve been playing on for a while. We’re a tight knit community, and it’s a nice space full of people who organize in their communities and work towards a better world, while also playing minecraft together. DM me if you’re curious 🙂
“Tell us a secret” (orientations)
Setting: Job Orientation Question: tell us a secret… Why the fuck would they even ask that kind of question? I thought about that recently. Jobs are trying to test our integrity, man, gimme a break. I don’t know where that came from lol but I had to post this to make a point of that.
So storm Eunice flew by last night and caused some damage to my home. A window in my sleeping quarters in my appartement broke because i brick flew right through it. After cleaning up all the glass, i informed my landlord and insurance. They are coming here on monday to see the damage and to fixx it. But monday i should go to work. So i send the pictures to my boss with the question if i could have a day off since they need me here on Monday to help, and let them in. She told me that i should have known that she actually can't, and that there is a huge shortage of employees. Last sentence was “see you on Thursday”. Lol. So i got a day off to fix the rampage in and around my house. My boss isn't always terrible Why am i sharing this? Because…
I saw a post where someone was asking for advice about accepting the counter offer their boss gave them. They had secured $16/hr at a new job and they currently earn $12/hr. Don’t Take The Counter Offer!!! If you had to threaten them before they gave you the raise, it means they don’t appreciate you. They never will. They’ll never see you for who you are or what you truly bring to the offer We all know that ex who promised to change their ways if we stayed. “But if only you would stay Jesse, I promise I’ll change. I’ll take you out more. ” What happened when you didn’t leave. Either they didn’t change or turned around and dumped you. Your boss will can you in 3 months. They just need you to keep things steady. Once you’ve muddied the waters be prepared to walk. Don’t be a toothless…
You Can’t Afford It
In addition to owning the metal shop where I work, my boss also owns a few houses that he rents out. This week he was telling the guys in the shop to spread word among their family and friends that he has a vacant house available for rent at $2k a month. It's three blocks from the shop. One of the shop foremen stepped up and said he'd be interested in renting the house. The boss responded: “No, you can't afford it. You don't make enough money.”

I went to my workplace one last time to test the water. – Sir can i talk to you – I am sure he wants money – I need a few days off – No way there is to much work, we need you here – Then give me a rise – No one is essential you know. Disgusted i asked for my final pay. – You can't leave like that, you have to give notice. I was fucked in every way, so i pretended to go to the toilets. – I have no choice – I have to leave trough the toilets window like in all delicates situations.
Retail Survivor Rant
At the close of last year, I got The Better Job that I was repeatedly told to get if I didn't like my previous ones. It is better in all aspects to the retail work I did for eight years, and I'll leave it at that, barring questions. I still believe that the way things are run is screwed up beyond all comprehension. There is no valid reason someone should have to stand all day, suffer the abuse and brain-cell destroying anti-wit of customers while juggling several different tasks, and still be struggling to make ends meet. Of course, there are reasons for enforcing such policies, where someone is expected to suffer physical pain while remaining submissive towards abuse and unrealistic standards for below-poverty wages- it not only allows executives to hoard more for themselves, it keeps the worker in a state of debasement and feeling that somehow, this is…
As a nurse in the US, I worked 12 hour night shifts, oftentimes extra shifts, had to hold my breath hoping I'd get time off when I needed it, I was worked to the bone. Day shift would occasionally get catered lunches, and us night shifters would get leftovers, that had been left out for 8-12 hours, or a pack of uncooked hotdogs. The coffee sucked. Patients were often rude and tiring. It was a thankless fucking job. I left it all behind to start a new life abroad. Now I work as a receptionist at a big tech company. My salary is more than I made when I first became a nurse. I get paid to welcome people, keep snacks stocked, order groceries, keep the place tidy, set up lunch, etc. I work normal office hours, no weekends or holidays. I get nearly 2 months of paid time off…
My grandfather worked for 30 years as a lowest rung post office employee, and my grandmother worked two days a week as a doctor's receptionist. Neither of them were tertiary educated. They both drank, and my grandmother smoked. They bought a modest house in their late 20s, put a kid through med school, and took an overseas holiday every other year. My wife and I both work full time, we're both university graduates, both mid level managers, and we live pay check to pay check. We're buying a comparable house in our 40s, we don't drink or smoke, we've never been overseas, and our child can only go to a decent school because of scholarships. But sure, tell me again about how it's our poor budgeting skills holding us back.
