Money isn't a storage of value, it's a storage of time. How much you are paid is how much someone thinks the time you put into doing it is worth. If you put in more “effort” (aka activity/time) you are worth more. Or should be. When you buy a loaf of breadyou are paying for the time to not make it yourself. Retirement is not how much you have, it's how long can you live. When you are paid minimum wage, it's not what can you afford to do, it's what can you afford not to do? Value your pay like your value your time.
Hello. I’m really nervous to talk about this. I don’t know why, but I am. And I’m so sorry this is so long. I left this job nearly a year ago, a job that for five years I never called off, worked almost all positions, and worked 14 hour shifts back to back at the beginning of the pandemic, and a job that turned me bitter about working in the United States anymore with this god awful system we have. A job that caused me so much severe body pain and mental grief that a year later, I’m almost a different person now that I no longer work there and my body has been able to heal. I used to cry myself to sleep some nights from stress and physical pain. At the time I was 19-21 years old when the pain really started to bother me. I worked for…
I work at an animal boarding facility, attached to a vet hospital. We have been short staffed for MONTHS. For some reason, my boss stopped hiring two months ago. Just.. removed the job post and stopped looking. My boss has also been rejecting boarding requests due to “staffing issues”. I have rejected client after client for this reason. One of my coworkers is on medical leave, so my department is run by two people now: me, and a part-timer. Neither of us can take time off without making the other one come in on their day off. I feel totally fucking trapped. My boss is in this vicious cycle where: we are too short staffed for boarding reservations, so we cannot take more. Since we are not taking any reservations, we aren't making any money. Since we aren't making any money, we can't hire more people. This is ridiculous. I've…
A couple years ago, she sold her house in AZ, moved up to a condo in the PNW and then COVID hit. She found a job doing medical records that was 100% remote. Was a good thing for her and since she is getting older (mid 60s) it fit in perfectly with her plans. She is going to work a few extra years to get the most out of Social Security and then retire. She isn't in the greatest health anymore, so COVID is a legit concern for her. Welp, a couple employees at her company quit and her boss informed her she'd have to drive into the office several days a week. This is downtown Portland. So my mom put in her notice and her boss asked her to stay on into March to get new people trained. Fair enough, am I still working 100% remote into March? No?…
I put my phone on “away from desk” and snoozed for fifteen minutes. Didn't do more since I didn't want to be groggy or get noticed but it was nice. I'm fucking tired man
Been here for over 14 yrs, moved up 3 positions, loyal to the company. Get a review every year that is “meets expectations” or better. Last year was 3% raise and i was still rather new in that position, thats fine. This year i took on bigger projects and made improvements. Only got 3% when inflation is now at 7.5, and we live in a high cost of living region. The only bad on my review was i didnt finish a project that was listed as a goal for the year. Heres the thing: all year i was told exactly what projects to work on. I was given no time for the year goal. My boss says “if that happens, you need to challenge me about it”. Am i wrong to think that he's in the wrong? Last fall, hourly employees got a cost of living increase (some were considerable),…
I’m either a slow adult, or the amount of anti union rhetoric has been steadily growing in this sub the last several weeks. My bet? Our overlords know about us (thanks Fox News interview), and they are getting scared. They are willing to spend MILLIONS to crush any worker movement they see pop up. I’m guessing we have hundreds (if not thousands) of corporate paid trolls lurking around ready to pounce on anyone that uses the word union in a positive way. These corporate fucks do it everyday in real life organizing drives. Why wouldn’t they spend a little of their unlimited capitol to make sure this type of online movement doesn’t actually get legs. Don’t buy this bullshit. Apes together- STRONG.
