Yesterday was V Day and the boss texted my partner to come in 30 min earlier for prep. Usually the shift starts at 3, service doesn't start until 5, so he didn't show at 2:30 because there is enough time to prep and just pretended he didn't see the text. It's a local restaurant with a full bar. They got slammed hard on V Day and my partner is the sole bartender for the night, and shares the tips equally with the servers. It kinda sucks because he doesn't have backup or help, and he doesn't really get paid more on busy nights because there are more servers to share the pool. He was already ready to look for something new, but then boss withheld $30 for 30 min he didn't show before service. He was there through all of service and until midnight to finish cleanup, and boss still…
Punishment and Ego of management
My coworker and I were both written up for missing a meeting and because our new boss didn’t like us…I was beaten down and decided to just kiss ass. My coworker didn’t. My issue went away, but hers was escalated three days before she was to leave the team. She can end up with a demotion, suspension, or termination…the funny thing this is a government job and they can’t find anyone because the pay and benefits suck. I am constantly surprised by management’s ego to shoot itself in the foot. The sad thing is that the community will be punished because it takes at least a year to get someone truly trained.
It’s paragraphs! Please use them people. Some of you have very interesting stories and situations to share. Using paragraphs makes it readable, and easy on the eyes. You can write the exact same story without paragraph breaks and it makes the person seem crazy, and literally looks like some epic rant. Do it. DO IT NAUGH
So, I’m a server in Canada and until October of 2021 I had worked at the same restaurant for over 4 years. This is the only restaurant job I’ve ever had. In October, I spoke to my department manager about taking a LoA because I was having trouble juggling work and school. He told me he could give me a month off but for any more than that I would have to talk to the general manager, let’s call him Richard. So, I spoke to Richard who told me he can’t give me a LoA, but if I need time off, I can quit and he would be happy to rehire me when I want to come back. Richard is notorious for refusing to rehire people who’ve quit and want to come back, so I was skeptical but he reassured me, “100% we would love to have you back. Take…
So we’re going to say her name on a group call and tell her she’s great. Yay! Thanks for more money for the executives and uh, good luck to you!!
This happened about 30 minutes ago. Went to go help a friend move, they hired some movers as well. One of the movers tripped and hit his head on the road, we called 911 because he couldn’t remember what year it was or who the president was, his eye was really swollen and there was blood. His coworker says their boss’ policy is that no customer can call an ambulance, they have to call him and then he will call if he thinks they need it. The ambulance comes and they check him out and the EMTs say he needs to go to the hospital, but the movers boss calls and makes him refuse the ride and go to a walk in clinic instead. Is there anything I can do, or someone I can call? Is this even legal? If I find out any more of the story I’ll update…
