I absolutely hate it when I take the time out of my day to apply for a part time position and they reply with interest, but try to trap me into somehow accepting a full time position instead. Shouldn't this be labeled illegal somehow – like misrepresentation or something? Each time this happens, I'll type this reply: “Thank you for taking the time to reply to my application, but I am not looking for a 40h+ position. I will be more than happy to work for you if you have anything available that's between 20-30 hours per week.” Guess what? That's right! No replies! Fuck these people. I'm not spending the rest of my life working shit for minimum wage. I understand that I need to pay for stuff if I want hobbies and shit, but I can easily get by with money I have saved for at least a…
I saw this from many places including recent DSA’s anti-war statement and a certain moderator of this subreddit. My native language is not English so I’m having a hard time understanding it. Does this mean “There’s not a single war that isn’t class war” or “We oppose (bourgeois) war but support (working) class war”? Thx.
So like the title says, I am a social work intern operating in the capacity of a case manager/tech support/ substitute teacher role at a vocational training organization for adult learners, which specifically works with marginalized communities in our area. We work with almost entirely women currently and mostly individuals of South and Central American origin or ethnicity. And in my time worker here I am so incredibly disgusted by how our society works. Though this last few weeks have really been the last straw. The program I am working with has recently partnered with LifeSpan. Anyone who isn't in the North East will not know, but Lifespan is a massive medical conglomerate that practically owns all the healthcare services in the New England area. They are actually the largest employer in my state which is disgusting, especially with how they run things. I am a social worker so I…
Gf asked for more money, they fired her
My girlfriend worked for Aksarben heating and air in Omaha NE. They asked her to post a job ad. The ad didn't include wage information. Come to find out they were offering $17-$19 to start. My gf has worked there for 2 years and makes $16.41/hr. She said she was going to put her 2 weeks in and reapply at the better wage. The GM said he was disappointed that she chose to do this on the group chat and she needed to take today off and have a face to face at 2pm today. They fired her this morning with no reason. She is one of the best employees they have as far as producing numbers. I told her they fired her for discussing wages with everyone and calling out the GM. Right or wrong that's what happened.
I work for a global bio tech equipment and chemical supplier and the covid pandemic meant that business has been booming for us. 2021 was our most profitable year ever, as it was for many companies. I work in the North America Life Sciences group and our 2021 yearly financial statements just came out: https://www.emdgroup.com/en/investors/reports-and-financials/financials.html I know a little bit about money, but not enough to actually understand accounting reporting. I'm looking for some help in finding some key figures that I can share with the rest of the team so that we are more informed about our company's financial well being from of all the excess profits they earned off our labor. Can someone give some info on basic simple things to look for? Is there a single number I can point to and say “Here's what we did for you company, please compensate us appropriately.” The things I…
making the company server more secure
So our new director, the 4th in 4 years, thought it was a great idea the people cant get on “every” map on our server. Of course i'm ok that i cant go into the HR map (which i couldnt anyway) but i cant get into directories like transport and service. Folders i ocationally need as an engineer that needs to transport stuff and needs to send people on a service job. But after a big discussion i'm ok with it, i'm just not gonna do that. Just gonna stick my head in the sand and say: sorry mate, cant do that because i'm not allowed to give you a simple transport document. The people that can get into anything are the “managers”. So my manager and the workshop manager that was once my intern. Now our workshop manager has a burnout and works 2 day and 3 days a…
Hey all – appeal to any field workers out there. My unit “strongly discourages” taking extensive vacations from May-October because that's when most of our work is done (pesticide application and trapping). I was pretty burnt out last year, so in September, I booked a cruise in May expecting to quit by now… But I can't. Because I'm broke and I don't have a new job. (Very hard to apply when you're already burnt). So after a couple awkward conversations, I got my time verbally approved… With the expectation that I have to explain to other staff why I'll be off lol. Others took vacations during September last year, and I know will again this year, and one of my coworkers wants to take a vacation in July. I really don't see an issue with it – management doesn't schedule work, we do. The folks who want to take time…
