If you want to know true power,

Quit a job that relies on you for everything. I am, for the remainder of February, the sole full time employee at a sales/retail location. Did everything myself; sales, inventory, health and safety, deliveries, dealing with dickhead customers. We would have 2 rush times of the year, where I would be putting in at least 90 hours per week for 4-6 weeks. The record one year was 26 days straight, with 15 hours of work being the shortest day of the 26. Now I know what you're thinking, wow that's lots of overtime pay… nope, job is salaried. No overtime pay. I brought it up every year for 4 years prior to the rush that I was overwhelmed and over worked. The answer? “Well, the work has to get done.” That's easy for my boss to say when he is at the head office several hours away, where there are…

Passed over for a promotion, now you have no employees.

I have been working at a job for which I'm very overqualified for about 6 months. It's hard work and not a lot of pay, but I was told when I took the job that I had to start at the bottom but with my work history I would move up very quickly. I don't mind hard work and I don't mind having to pay my dues at a new company to move up and I liked the district manager who I interviewed with so that was all fine. Meanwhile, this company is bleeding employees. Fully staffed, my branch has 6 employees and a branch manager. We have been fully staffed for a total of 5 days since I started there. I've been doing the job of 3 people for 6 months straight, working 50-60 hour weeks and coming in on the weekends to make sure the work gets done.…

The shit about quitting/calling off via text being “unprofessional” was made up to protect employers.

If there is one thing bosses fucking hate, it's a papertrail. The papertrail protects you from being illegally exploited and from the boss lying in court about when and what agreements were made. That's why they despise you texting or emailing them anything that would be pertinent to your employment rights within the company, such as requesting a raise, taking time off or your resignation. Ignore this shit and exercise your legal RIGHT to a papertrail. You are OWED the ability to call off via text under federal law.

Got a glowing review, leadership says I’m invaluable, I’ve completely stood up process & improved the team here. Was rewarded with a 12% raise which still puts me 60k below market. Now I’m leaving.

Throwaway to protect myself. I joined this company over a year ago and had a terrible manager. I was doing his job along with mine for 6 months until people found out and he got fired. I was promoted when he got fired and was given a small 20k pay bump which put me at 110k. My role in-market pays a lot more than I get paid but I figured they would eventually hire someone above me to manage my team. Since my promotion I’ve taken on additional responsibility, hired and trained employees, managed employees, led the team, improved process & systems procedures and have helped drive the business forward substantially. I’ve basically been one of a few people to really help steer the ship in the right direction. My most recent review was glowing. I was reviewed by mostly VP & executive level people who mentioned I was invaluable…

PSA before you quit your job.

Make sure you're worth a damn to us hiring folks. I've had so many applicants this last couple weeks, that I needed to take down the job offer to get through them all. Of over 100 candidates, I'd say 70% of them had either insufficient experience, or 0 experience at all. Half of the interviewees told me they quit their last job because of wage indifference. New hires got paid more than they were. Yes, that sucks, but when I hired one because she had great communication and availability in our interview it blew up in my face. Her former employer took her from 40 to 16 hours a week, abd she said it was her school's schedule. Nope, she just cant tell her ass from a hole in the wall. Instructing her is useless, she's college educated but can't seem to land a job in her field. Well, today…
