I was working as a part-time music teacher, but when the pandemic hit they had me working 1-2 hours a week online for about a year. I contacted them multiple times hoping to obtain more hours and they never got back to me. Eventually my students quit and I no longer had work. Cue to half a year later, they tried to contact me to start teaching ASAP after leaving me unemployed, so I didn’t respond. Fast forward to last month (a year after they stopped giving me hours) they emailed me saying: “We have reached out to you multiple times in the last few months by text, email and phone. Unless I hear otherwise I will take a non-reply to this email as confirmation you are resigning your position at the Studio effective [date]” So they stopped giving me work for about a year, I didn’t feel the need…
I'd say student loans collections agent, because education is not a luxury commodity but (should be) an investment back into our people and their contribution to a better humanity for future generations. Holding society's best interests and people's lives hostage to profit, against their desire to better themselves and their world as an educated citizen is sort of evil. We shouldn't have an industry where thousands of our fellow citizens' livelihoods depend on jobs making life worse and doing evil to our fellow citizens in the name of a predatory loan industry that claims to help us in the beginning but too often preys on us (and our collective society) in the end.
A big eff you for your ridiculous rules/policies, disrespect, bitchy employees, forcing me to dye my hair, and much more! Best of luck to ya!
I went through 3 interviews with a company whose listing stated that 3-5 years of Marketing experience was required. The job had a hefty list of responsibilities and the company is definitely a place that rakes in a lot of money. Anyway, I ended up really liking company #1 and I had a job offer on the table from another company so I told company #1 that they were my first choice and that my timeline was now shorter because I needed to give company #2 a decision on whether I was going to accept the job offer or not. They sped up the hiring process for me and I got an offer from company #1 within 2 days. They told me that the starting rate was $20/hour. I was floored. I have 4.5 years of experience and I had no idea what to say to this guy. What did…
Can someone explain to me like I'm an idiot, what this whole “write up” and “goes in your file” shit is that I see in so many posts? I sort of understand if you're working at a large, multinational, institutional corporation and plan to be there for 30 years across multiple locations and departments. But for people who work at a local florist or fucking Foot Locker, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, that people seem to accept this as something to fear. Oh no! Not a “write up”! Not a report put IN MY FILE! How will my career recover from “Barbara” saving a note in a manila folder somewhere where she dramatically chronicled that time I wore ripped jeans to work back in 2019? Imagine if I yelled at my dog that I was writing him up for shitting in his crate again. That's how…
So I’m super ticked off, I just learned that my employer at the coffee shop I work at has hired a lady, with no food or coffee experience to take the manager roll I was offered. A month and a half ago I talked to her and said that I would be happy to take on a larger roll within the franchise, and she said she’d be happy to promote me. What she’s done instead is given me more hours more responsibility, and when I ask about the promotion she laughs at me. I like where I work, and I like who I work for however, I’m going to quit soon once school starts. I’m super frustrated and don’t understand why business owners don’t focus on keeping the people they have and focus on replacing them in case they leave. Well, she made a good prediction because I’m out of…
Calvinism rots the protestant work “ethic” to the core. Basically, in a nutshell, most anglo-saxons* believe (and that’s so pervasive that even non-protestants believe it, too!!!) that poor people are poor because they are lazy, and they are lazy because they have no morals, and they have no morals because god has decided so, and there’s nothing that can be done about it, except punishing the poor because of their poor morals. It’s not for nothing that France seriously persecuted calvinists and protestants for centuries, because they have a very toxic mindet that absolutely rots the social fabric. Nothing will ever be able to be done until calvinism is totally eradicated from the anglo-saxon collective psyché. Which is to basically say “never”. * “Anglo-saxon” is a French political science term that designates the protestant, english-speaking countries (England†, USA, Canada, Australia, New-Zealand). † I purposedly avoided mentionning Cymru, Alba and Éire.
