Hey guys, long time listener first time caller. So, for just a touch of context/backstory. I'm 30/m diagnosed with ADHD/Autism and keeping a job has never been easy for me. I've been working 6-12 months at random retail jobs for the last 2 years and quitting when jobs stop working out for me. This past Fall I was applying places for a new gig and found a local tabletop gaming store hiring (I love that shit), so obviously I applied. I was scheduled for an interview almost immediately, interview was kinda messy and I had to take a pay cut but small businesses you know? I start at the job a week or so later and think I've finally found a job I can be myself at and grow. I was so happy I had finally found somewhere I could be happy. Until my third day when the owner got…
Unpaid internships
Hello! I hate to be that person but do any of the companies you work with need an unpaid virtual student intern? I'm definitely anti-capitalist and know unpaid internships are exploitative but we need to get one for our resumes before summer :/
Hi redditors, i am not disclosing anything due to the contract, this post is not about perks or disadvantages but more on mental health and burn out. As you can see from the title, the job is really demanding and the pay is skewing slightly to above average ( senior position), but the company itself is slowly retracting their subsidy( no longer burning money lol) and sometimes under-delivering to the promised support for sellers, hence putting client-facing staffs in a pickle. this inconsistency and constant grind really takes a toll on my psyche, i am really overworked and overwhelmed. My cortisol level is at an all time high due to my stress level (daily campaign, monthly campaign, you know the drill of the ecommerce sphere), there is no rest, even on public holidays i still work ( as every metric is recorded live by the system, so when the numbers…
I’m a support worker, I care for people who’s family are unable to meet their needs through no fault of their own. It’s rewarding, the pay is shit but it’s enough to just about get by. Except I can only work limited hours because of having Tourette’s. Long sorry short, Tourette’s is actually a really disruptive and painful disorder, mentally and physically. I can only work 2/3 times a week because this shit is tiring. Anyway that amount of work equates to £540 a month. My rent alone is £825 (crappy small ass flat that isn’t accessible for someone like me). Just a bit of context, when I moved into my flat I was working full time earning £1600-1700 a month, but then I had to go off sick for 6 months, unpaid. Okay I’ll use my savings sure whilst I apply for benefits, I’m eligible that’s for sure. Nice,…
Harassed out of my career
Hi all, thought I'd share my story with you. I'll give the high level version for this first bit, I used to be a meat cutter for probably 15 years. Loved it. Moved from store to store because one thing or another happened and I said it's not worth it and tried somewhere else. My last retail I was cutting at I actually liked my boss, he was great and compassionate. Then he got a promotion. I was next in line to be management but I tried that before and said no thanks, I had a new child on the way and I don't want to do the work 70 hrs a week. Anyways they hired a new manager, fine and dandy, except something was off about him, kind of a squirrly MF. He would do things like take me for coffee and when my break was up he'd say…
It was my Monday last night (freight thrower during graveyard shift), and I came in for 10-15 minutes before I walked out. Came home to paint, and I feel so relieved to be done with that cycle of bullshit. Focusing on art and education for the time being!!! Upon returning from my weekend, I saw several carts of freight in the back (which hadn’t been worked by my coworker the days prior), unwrapped pallets of random freight, etc. Last week I worked the back stock and all random carts out of the back room, sorting it, etc. Time and time again my coworker has left me his messes to clean up. As I’m the only other freight thrower in that department, I’ve asked him as well as management to be a bit more mindful about keeping things nice, since I’m the one who has to fix it. Last night was…
I worked for amazon and ended up becoming disabled as a result of working there. Its now very difficult to pay my bills due to only receiving 75% of the $16 an hour wage I was getting there. Due to being in pain all of the time, Im completely removed from the workforce. I found out that you can earn $650 a month donating plasma so I went. When I first got there the nurse told me that I needed to leave and go eat more. So I go to a grocery store to buy some cheap croissants thinking this would be enough. My card gets declined so I have to ask the cashier to take off 3 of these croissants. As I leave she throws them in the trash. Waste. Not her fault, but it disgusted me nonetheless. I eat 2 croissants. Go back to the donation center and…
