How come I couldnt choose to be a software developer?
I had to take my daughter to the hospital due to an emergency mental health situation. Ended up spending 27 hours in the emergency room while we waited for a bed in the inpatient program. Company owner would not stop calling and asking when I would be available to talk. Ummm, I’m at the hospital? My boss also had told him I was at the hospital and told me to take as much time as I needed. Owner asks ‘who authorized that?’ Crazy thing is we’re an HR company and owner should be familiar with NY paid sick leave laws.
I’m a closer at a butchers shop. It’s just me most of my shifts, and i work 5 days a week. I feel empty when I clock in. I do the same tasks every day and then go home and don’t feel accomplished. I get “thank you’s” and “I’m sorry’s” from the morning shift whenever they leave the shop especially dirty. But it’s not rewarding. I’m only here for the pay. What can I do about this. Can i even do anything?
Social Media Audit
So we have a new manager at my firm and instead of speaking to me or getting to know me, she stalked me on the internet. She found old LinkedIn profiles and demanded that I update them or delete them because “it may be confusing to clients”. She cc’d everyone in my department at my title and above to email me about this, so everyone would know. I told her that I made one profile private and the other one I don’t have access to it because it’s so old. I told her that she was making me feel uncomfortable and to stop investigating my history on the internet and she needed to respect my boundaries and privacy. Now we have a meeting scheduled with HR tomorrow. I could lose my job. Any thoughts?
I have a friend who works ad a teacher in the UK. He currently earns £30k. For that he works 80 hours a week, has to deal with degenerate children and the arseholes who raised them. Last year he was told he would be “beaten to a pulp in the car park” for telling a parent their kid was en route to failure. Today he was offered a job in China for the equivalent of £51k before bonuses. He sets off in July.
Breakroom Motivation – Yes This Is Real
I've been here 6 months and he's been here 1. He has less experience, less schooling, and less qualifications than me. I'm wondering what steps I can take to renegotiate my salary to something closer to what he's making? I'm in Wisconsin and we're an at-will state, so I have to tread lightly or I can lose my job. My other coworkers are in the same situation, making the same as me with a $6k difference. (In addition, my coworker who just got a raise has been here 2 years and still makes $4.5k less than the new hire, with more qualifications). I'm updating my resume tonight and looking into unions in the sector as well as possibly scheduling a walkout, and I have a meeting with HR on Thursday with at least 2 of my coworkers to back me up. Any advice, legal or not, would be much appreciated.
