I noticed that the company I work for is paying brand new hires more per hour than me and I’ve been here for six years. A bunch of employees found the job posting online, and the company complained that wasn’t true. I beg to differ as my state requires that all companies show the salary range on all job postings. How do I handle this conversation with a manager? We’re talking about 10k more a year.

I’ve been working freelance in film for about 2-3 years now. Mostly as a production assistant, especially the first 2 years. I’ve been lucky to enough to get in with some of the props people I see from time to time and occasionally I’ve been thrown in the mix with the electrics and grips, but for the most part, everyone knows me as a PA. Background (not U.S., and sort of vague on purpose) : I've been freelancing with Company for 8+ years. Old Boss (A++) retires after cultivating great working environment in the team (one service among others within Company). Although 'external', I've really been part of that team, included in several 'team building' activities, even been paid on those days ! I lost both my parents, 2 years apart, but each time being unexpectedly away for a full week was not an issue, they even sent flowers for the funerals. My boss plays favourites bad. It’s been clear it was going to be a problem from the beginning. They hired their best friend. We all signed 6 month contracts. One co worker left at the beginning, their replacement came in a few weeks later. Conveniently their sibling, got them the job. That sibling was promoted from causal to part time 3 months in. That co worker does squat, but they clearly love and use the favouritism in their favour. Another co corker is a bf of boss. I’m done with the dramatics but have no where else to go. Apparently the company is doing some restructuring and called today to inform her that her job will not be there for her when she's done her leave. I was under the impression that the company is legally required to hold your job for 18 months when you go on maternity leave. Is what they're doing legal? Her being terminated also means that we no longer have access to her benefits plan. Still reeling from this one and spiraling out thinking of all the ways this affects our plans for the future. Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

It’s that saying that you need experience for a job but you need a job for experience. How are you supposed to get experience in a field if you have to have experience to be hired? This isn’t even like I have zero experience. I work in a different but similar department. The posting said they will train. But I take off my current job to interview and was told they didn’t mean train from nothing. Just because I don’t have department specific training doesn’t mean I know nothing. I’m tired of jobs not being specific up front. My workplace only allows you to apply to transfer so many times so this is one wasted. Not to mention I was kept waiting outside the building for about 7 minutes before my interview which lasted less than 5 minutes total. The supervisor didn’t even apologize for making me wait. I’m in college and working towards having a job in the medical industry. Sometimes I wonder if I’m wasting my time and money, and should just get into Data entry or something in IT or social media. I’ve been a bartender and waitress since I was 14 and I am in my late twenties. Sometimes the posts make me realize I might just be getting a pay cut to be able to never tell my boss to fuck off. I work in an industry where jobs are a dime a dozen, so if I don’t like my boss I can silly tell them to get fucked and have a full time job by tomorrow. I guess location helps. But I make easily $27 per hour and sometimes far more than that. Did anyone leave the service industry for a pay cut, an attitude adjustment, and regrets?
