My workplace just informed everyone they have to book all their 2023 vacation days by March. As if 14 vacation days wasn’t a slap in th3 face already.

Is this legal? I live in Ontario. I guess it probably is but what a shit thing to do to people. On top of that if you want to change the days you need to give them a months notice. Who tf comes up with this shit.

I am in HR – what opportunities can I bring to the table?

I finally have the exciting opportunity to be the sole HR person of a company (mid-size). They currently don’t have an HR department, they used third parties for that, but they brought me on to be the HR person for their company in-house. I have some projects I’ll be working on, such as completely rewriting the employee handbook. I’d like to update our PTO policies as well. I’m looking for some perspective and ideas from employees to help with employee morale and retention. I know HR gets a bad name as the company police and they are not there to help the employee. This has never been the way I do HR and I plan on continuing that, to move this company in the right direction.

Company is cutting my position and taking my pay with it

This is in NH. A retailer I recently started working for has decided to cut my position company wide. Since i'll be dropping down a title (i.e. getting a demotion through absolutely no fault of my own) and it “has to be the same across the board” they're cutting my hourly pay by almost $3.

Can I be Fired for Telling a Friend about an Incident in the Workplace?

TL;DR: Had a small fire in the shop I work at and told a friend. Boss's wife had a panic attack when I told her during an unrelated thing. Boss isn't happy, but hasn't talked to me yet as of posting. So I work at an autoshop and we had a very small, very short fire on a customer vehicle (and no fault has been given to us or to the vehicle itself, won't go into the details of the fire other than that) an unspecified number of days/weeks ago. The day of the incident, I told a friend I'd have to cancel an appointment we had because I smelled like smoke and only elaborated to them what I've mentioned above. She said nothing of it and didn't care (tho disappointed because we had this trip planned for a month before the incident). Fast forward to today and I briefly…

How? And what’s the point?

I need to Vent. How am I supposed to be able to take care of my family on one income. I work my ass off, I’ve worked in person for the last three years, as it’s the best opportunity for my skill set. I’ve scratched and clawed my way to an upper management position in the hospitality industry. My wife and I scrapped all our information together so we could buy a house, so we could insure a roof over our heads on our terms, five years ago we were both essentially homeless. Now we have two kids, so she can’t work as there isn’t quality child care in our area. And now in an emergency we don’t qualify for a line of credit after a car collision. With a bank that I’ve been with for ten years, who also holds our mortgage. I have really good good credit (…

Bullshit on your resume but learn the skill…

I'll go straight to the point. This has been a proven working method for me. First I combine all of the job duties I ever had in my life for every job I held, align them and pick the 2 most relevant experiences to a specific job. Second thing is I then learn about a skill or do a quick udemy/coursera course about that specific job.(The courses are hacked courses I always get for free). Third thing is I boost the experience level by years and reword the “Job position”. By doing these 3 things on my resume, I landed better paying jobs everytime. Then during the interview I try to “educate” the interviewer to show my grasp of the subject and how I would be the best fit for this role. Works everytime. Below is my greatest example of what I mean for the resume part: Before: Title: Insurance…

I’m not even a month into my new job and already I want to quit

You know the whole “everyone is hiring” phrase? Well it seems like I fell for one of those. I saw a post about a job online and thought hey I can do that. Next thing I know when I get hired there's a “certain amount” of work that needs to get done by the end of the day oh and they want nobody to screw up. How are we supposed to be fast and careful? Want people to be more careful? Perhaps don't have a high amount of work that “needs to be done”. I'm just ugh exhausted already I'm probably going to quit within a month or two and find something else..
